In the aftermath of the Vatican 'Rat Line' when the Roman Catholic church hid Nazi war criminals in convents and monasteries and smuggled them away from justice into hiding in pro fascist Peronist countries in South America (the Vatican ardently refuses to open these records from its secret archives) , Pope John XXIII promoted Jesuit theologian  Michael Schmaus to cardinal calling Schmaus "The Theologian of Munich". Indeed he was . It was Schmaus who authored the treatise ' Empire and State' furnishing the Roman Catholic theological basis for Roman Catholic support of Hitler & The Nazi Party rising to power in coalition with the Zentrum, the Roman Catholic party of Bavaria headed by privy chamberlain to the pope Hans Von Pappen. Von Pappen was responsible in World War I for the Black Tom terrorist attack in New York harbor, at that time the largest terror attack to have ever taken place on US soil. Von Pappen was convicted at Nurmberg but never hung due to the probable intervention of Pope Pius XII.

Before I watched the film of Noah I thought the film would be a case of "this is how it really happened". I imagined that the story of Noah would be demythologized in order to rationally explain that climate change caused the flood, the flood was localised, Noah would be a religious nut who heard voices in his head to build an ark and there would be no rainbow at the end. I was wrong. Instead, what Darren Aronofsky has done is enter the realm of the "rewritten bible". Not quite technically a genre, the "rewritten bible" are works that are based upon biblical stories that are retold in a way that explains difficult passages and principles of the bible in more detail and/or presents a new theological twist to answer contemporary questions of the day. During the Intertestimental Period (Between Malachi and Matthew) many books were written in this manner. Two outstanding works of this period that deal largely with narratives from Genesis are the Book of Enoch (which the Epistle of Jude quotes from) and Jubilees. Both of these books, more so Enoch, deal with the theological implications of the flood. The film of Noah implies that it is doing the same. I wouldn"t say that the film draws from these works, apart from the focus on the Watchers rather than the Nephalim, but keeps to the general narrative of Noah with a few fundamental differences that fit the films agenda.

We have been hearing from a number of people on four Blood (red) Moons for 2014, making it is a unique and significant event. We are told the first of these four Blood Moons is to occur on Passover (Pesach) 2014 and through October (Sukkot) 2015. We are reminded by those pointing this out of Jesus saying there would be signs in the sky, specifically that the sun would be darkened and the moon would turn blood red.
Spring in Israel is a beautiful time. The night air is often heavy with the scent of Jasmine, citrus and other blossoms, and we have been grateful for what little rain we have had, in what has been a fairly dry rainy season. Though rain has been sparse, there was enough to delay the municipal Purim celebration. Each year there is a parade through the main street, with carnival floats and clowns and many in the crowds also wear costumes and masks. The masks are a tradition based on the fact that the name of God is not mentioned in the book of Esther, but it is apparent that He is operating behind the scenes, masked as it were. In Hebrew the parade is called the "Ad-Lo-Yada", which means in Hebrew "until one can not discern". This strange term comes from a Rabbinic idea that Purim it is considered a mitzvah (obligation) to drink wine until once cannot discern between the righteous Mordechai and the wicked Haman.
