A Look at C. Peter Wagner's Memoirs

Wrestling with Alligators, Prophets and Theologians: Lessons from a Lifetime in the Church "“ A Memoir is the autobiography of C. Peter Wagner, the head apostle of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)

An analysis, by Jackie Alnor

[caption id="attachment_7906" align="alignright" width="167" caption="Wrestling with Alligators, Prophets and Theologians: Lessons from a Lifetime in the Church "“ A Memoir"][/caption]

What strikes the reader is that Wagner's memoirs show an evolution of theology that adapts itself to whatever trends invade the church. What Wagner boasts as being "paradigm shifts" in his spirituality actually demonstrate his lack of any biblical moorings. He tries to convince the reader of his academic prowess, while exposing his spiritual shallowness.

The book gives the reader insights into what makes this so-called apostle tick. Wagner seems quite honest in his self-assessment and does not seem to mind exposing his humanistic attitude towards all things religious. What is very much lacking in this book is any Christian testimony of the greatness of God and the Lord Jesus Christ and knowing Him as his personal Savior. It is more an overview of what he calls his "career" in church growth, academics and influence upon others.

Although there is no dedication page, Wagner does acknowledge the person who confirmed that he should publish his memoirs, Rick Joyner of Morning Star Ministries. While it is widely known that Joyner is a false prophet and worker with evil spirits, Wagner calls him "one of the most brilliant of our contemporary Christian leaders...Rick helped me to feel that I have good biblical justification for this book," he wrote, citing 1 Thes. 5:12, "Paul's admonition that believers should "˜recognize those who labor among you.'" [p. 11]

The book opens up to several pages of Wagner's admirers, each writing a paragraph as to why they think Wagner is such an honorable figure in modern church history. They include Mike Bickle, President of IHOP; James Goll, Encounters Network; Bill Hamon, Christian Int'l Apostolic Network; Jack Hayford, Church on the Way; Cindy Jacobs, Generals Int'l; Bill Johnson, Bethel Church; Gwen Shaw, End-Time Handmaidens; Steve Strang, Charisma magazine and an assortment of endorsers from the charismaniac side of the church.

TBN and Jack Van Impe in a Rift

by Jackie Alnor
www.apostasyalert.org

Bible Prophecy pundit, Jack Van Impe, has just announced that he will be canceling his TV program, "Jack Van Impe Presents'' from the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) after a recent episode was replaced with a program promoting unity between Christianity and Islam.

According to a news release on Van Impe's web site, "On Wednesday afternoon we received a call from Matt Crouch of TBN informing us that they would not run that program, despite having aired it Monday evening. The reason he gave was that we specifically mentioned Rick Warren and Robert Schuller and that it is TBN's policy that broadcasters are not allowed to rebuke other ministries. This is a rather hypocritical statement in light of the fact that they have never said anything in the past when we have rebuked others such as Bishop Spong, Bishop Pike, and in the past few months Harold Camping and Rob Bell."

Van Impe has recently veered from his own policy of not criticizing other ministries. He is infamous for ragging on anyone who dares to refute the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. He is receiving a taste of his own medicine.

It comes at no surprise that it was Matt Crouch, the younger son of TBN founders Paul and Jan Crouch, that flexed his muscles in Van Impe's direction. Several years ago while was hosting the Praise the Lord program, Matt expressed his fury at Van Impe by name in response to Van Impe's promotional tape on Y2K. Matt accused Van Impe of trying to raise money by planting fear in people's minds, something TBN does on a regular basis during every Praise-a-Thon fund raiser.

Apostasy Alert on Rapture Radio

There are two extremes that saints can fall prey to in their walk with the Lord: legalism or license. Both are killers to our witness and our fellowship with Jesus.

It seems like the overall condition of the church flits between those two sides of the pendulum. One occurs in reaction - or should I say overreaction - to the other. It's a fine line to walk in the balance of the two.

Walter Martin's Last Stand on TBN

In light of another Calvary Chapel pastor making an appearance on TBN's Praise-the-Lord program, I thought it apropos to share a tape in my collection of how a Bible believer should behave when invited onto TBN or any of the other errant "Christian" networks. What sort of message is communicated when a solid Bible teacher shares the platform with heretics and does not bring reproof? Certainly it gives the impression that the guest endorses the teaching of the hosts and /or founder of the Christian network.

Every January prognosticators and forecasters in the world, the church, and the occult publish their predictions for the coming year. When we look back at their track record, we're not very impressed. Some are hit & miss; others are downright off target; none are 100% accurate.
Recently the economic experts have most people's attention. They base their predictions on their understanding of the financial market. Meteorologists forecast weather patterns to expect in the coming year. Astrologers supposedly see into the future via the study of the constellations and superstitious beliefs in their influences. And self-appointed prophets in the visible church prophesy according to a supposed dream, vision, or audible voice from God.

All these voices have a common appeal: worldliness... [To continue reading go to this link.]

Witnessing with Bible Prophecy

by Jackie Alnor

The natural outcome of recognizing the signs of the times for the Christian should be the urgency to share the gospel with others. It is inconceivable to think about the looming wrath of God being poured out upon those we love who will be left behind if they do not receive the free gift of salvation before the rapture.

It has truthfully been said that "apologetics is the handmaiden of evangelism." You cannot proclaim the truth without being prepared to defend it. The defense of the faith and the proclamation of it are two sides of the same coin. You can't have one without the other.

When witnessing to others it is so important to find common ground upon which to begin the conversation. There are no formulas to follow; we must be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit because we cannot argue anyone into the Kingdom. It is a work of God upon the heart and all we can be are vessels God uses to speak on His behalf. Those who have ears to hear will listen, and those who have been given over to their own devices will respond accordingly.

Apostasy Alert

The field of the Christian study of apologetics stems from the command of scripture to:

"Contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." [Jude 3]

Jude was not addressing some uniquely called individuals in the church to some special office like pastor or evangelist, but makes it clear in the first verse that he was calling all believers to the task. "To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ." [Jude 1]

Yet over the years the defense of the faith against "every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God" [2 Cor. 10:5) has become specialized due to the superabundance of cults, heresies, and isms that attack the faith from within and without the professing church.

This week's overturning of the vote of the people of the state of California has left Bible-believing Christians reeling and voters cynical. It appears that the interests of the Castro District of San Francisco trump the voting rights of the entire state. Perhaps the talks of dividing northern and southern California into two separate states should come back to the table. That might be the only way for church-going voters to regain their democratic right to vote in an election where their vote counts.
