Preface

In analyzing a book that promotes itself as a manual on "how to become a part of the supernatural generation," it must be approached with prayer and humility. The temptation to condemn everything in the book risks trampling upon holy things. John Crowder, in his book "Miracle Workers, Reformers and the New Mystics" mixes the holy with the profane. Discerning between the two, especially in gray areas, is a giant task for any believer to take on.

So this analysis will highlight the spiritual quicksand in the book so that fellow pilgrims won't fall into the mire, just like the two travelers in the book, "Pilgrim's Progress" put up a road sign warning others not to go the way leading to the slough of despond.

Death of a Wolf

With his 900 foot tall Jesus Christ threatening to kill him if he did not raise millions of dollars by the end of the  month fund raising, Oral Roberts was indeed a deceiver. This tradition of deception is perpetuated by his son Richard, the Toronto Experience freak show hype-artist. While we do not delight in his death neither can we honestly mourn it. We recommend the following article by Jackie Alnor.

While I sympathize with those who have lost a loved one, the damage to the true Gospel continues to go forth on Christian television - Oral lives on.

Sincerely, in Christ,
Jackie Alnor

Kingdom Violence

Posted on Apostasy Alert
November 7, 2009
by Jackie Alnor

Headlines in the news this past week were an ugly reminder that violence is on the increase all over America. TV viewers cringed as images of the dead and wounded being rushed into ambulances in Fort Hood, Texas and Orlando, Florida interrupted regular programming. Collective tears were shed for the hysterical parents desperately trying to find out if their young people were among the victims.

The week before, the Bay Area reeled over the news of a 15-year-old girl who had been gang-raped, robbed, beaten and left for dead outside the Richmond High School dance she attended with her friends. Reportedly ten young men, some of them minors, took part in the brutal assault, taking turns at her. Many dance-goers stood around and watched, laughed, took pictures and egged the deviates on. None of the onlookers came to her assistance or even bothered to call the police. Finally, a student heard second hand that a naked girl was laying unconscious in the dark by the dumpster and called 911. Those who told her about it said they didn't want to be snitches and so wouldn't call for help for fear of retaliation. The victim survived but no doubt is scarred for life.

With all the talk in the liberal press about hate crimes, the local news was totally silent over the fact that the victim was a white "church-goer" and all the attackers were Latino in a region where illegal immigration is protected under the "safe haven, sanctuary" laws. If it were the other way around or if the victim were gay, they would have been all over it.

No Sweat

Do the recent deaths at a Sedona, Arizona New Age spiritual retreat have a lesson for anyone on a Christian journey today? It may seem far-fetched to think that anyone calling themselves "Christian" could learn anything from a group of "˜stupid people' following a charismatic cult leader into an unventilated sweat lodge with 65 other "˜stupid people,' yet this could be a wake-up call for some emergents, ecumenists and "prophetic" charismaniac "˜stupid people.' (tongue-in-cheek, of course)

Women on the Watch Conference

A follow-up report by Jackie Alnor

The 2nd annual Women on the Watch conference held last week-end in Ontario, California, turned out to be a wonderful time for like-minded believers to focus on the theme: "Behold the Bridegroom Cometh." Although the conference featured women speakers, the men who attended were also blessed to look toward the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ from a unique perspective. The line-up of the armies opposing the state of Israel and the nature of the terrorists who threaten the entire world were not the focus. Themes like spiritual deception and the moral landslide of the world were examined in detail and the excitement of the soon return of Jesus was contagious.

Father-Son Disharmony

by Jackie Alnor of Apostasy Alert

I observed a very sad scene on TBN last week, August 20, 2009, on the Praise the Lord program originating from TBN's new studio in New York City. The night's hosts were Matthew and Laurie Crouch and their first guests were TBN's founder Paul Crouch Sr. and his best friend Benny Hinn. Hinn was there to promote his new book, Blood in the Sand, a book on the subject of the Middle East in Bible prophecy. Very little time was spent on the book. Host Matt Crouch took this segment as an opportunity to confront his elderly father about his belief in the soon return of the Lord, a hope that the younger Crouch obviously does not share with his dad.

The disrespect Matt showed in confronting his dad on world-wide television -- on the network his dad built -- was astonishing. Paul Sr. has had a divided family on this issue of Dispensationalism as his wife Jan bought into the Kingdom-Now heresy of the late Earl Paulk decades ago and even won her husband over to it, at least for a short time. But now as he is facing the declining years of his life, he is taking a strong stand on his pre-mil/pre-trib heritage resulting in the scorn of his son who seems to despise his eschatology. Losing My Religion: How I Lost My Faith Reporting on Religion in America -- and Found Unexpected Peace, by William Lobdell. "”Reviewed by Jackie Alnor

"I had always been an anxious person and still am one. I bite my fingernails until they bleed. My stomach can churn up at a moment's notice. I have anxiety nightmares more nights than not." [page 56]

Those do not sound like the words of someone who "found unexpected peace" after rejecting Jesus Christ. But those are the words of William Lobdell, former religion reporter for the Los Angeles Times, whose 2009 book published by mega-publisher, HarperCollins, is a first-person account of apostasy in the life of a professing believer.

All That Glitters Is Not God's Glory

by Jackie Alnor

The latest charismatic craze heralding the long-awaited "Latter Rain" has fallen in Idaho - and I really mean fallen. How can the 'holy laughter'-shaking-drunkenness craze be outdone? How about with the gemstone-'weight-loss'-'hair growth' revival? We're talking major signs and wonders here! That's right - gemstones are falling from the sky in Coeur d'Alene. We can call this the "Chicken-Little Latter Rain Revival." It's raining cheap jewelry.

Confession Is Good For The Soul

by Jackie Alnor
Apostasy Alert

I have a confession to make. I can't write about Catholicism without my emotions getting stirred up. I can't be objective about the subject "“ nor can I shut up about it either.

When I see Bible-believing churches adopt Roman Catholic traditions, such as the liturgical use of incense, candles, and icons, I recoil in disgust. When Roman Catholic church fathers are quoted by Protestants to prove some theological point, I roll my eyes. When I'm in a gathering of believers and we are led by the leader to recite the Lord's Prayer in unison, Matthew 6:7 comes directly into my mind.

Todd Bentley: Unwelcome Wagon in L.A.

by Jackie Alnor
Apostasy Alert

The signs and wonders seekers waiting in line under the hot Los Angeles sun for the best seats in the Galen Center got more than they bargained for. They came to USC's sports stadium last weekend to see their hero Todd Bentley and to receive a promised impartation of God's anointing. But what they got was a dud of a meeting inside and some unanticipated reproofs, rebukes, and exhortations on the outside.
