Any comments on this article?  Ã‚  Do you think they explained the Emerging
Church well?

Hello Bill,

This article from my perspective is not a good representation. (the theologian DA Carson did a semi-scholarly review of McLaren & the
Emergent Church which was very good, but was not exhaustive or published in a popular magazine).

If you are older than 40 the name Benjamin Spock is more than familiar. It was Spock that told an entire generation of parents to take it easy, don"t discipline your children and allow them to express themselves. Discipline, he told us, would warp a child"s fragile ego. Millions followed the guru of child development and he remained unchallenged among child rearing professionals. However, before his death Dr. Spock made an amazing discovery: he was wrong. In fact, he said:

We have reared a generation of brats. Parents aren't firm enough with their children for fear of losing their love or incurring their resentment. This is a cruel deprivation that we professionals have imposed on mothers and fathers. Of course, we did it with the best of intentions. We didn't realize until it was too late how our know-it-all attitude was undermining the self assurance of parents.

Oops.

Mega-pastor Rick Warren is being challenged by other Christian leaders for not disciplining a prominent member of his California Saddleback Church flock for being one of the world's leading pornographers.

That would be Rupert Murdoch, chairman of News Corp., which, in addition to building a media empire on the chests of topless models and edgy, pushing-the-envelope Fox TV network shows, recently began building a stable of hard-core porn channels for its BSkyB subsidiary.

Slice of Laodicea

Following Bill Hybel"s example, Rick Warren will be dining with Christians who say they are gay and proud of it. They are bringing their families with them to Saddleback for a Father"s Day celebration. This is the same gay road trip that has traveled the country to various megachurches to win converts to their views on sexuality. Even Joel Osteen said no to such a gathering. Repeat: these are professing "Christians" who are in moral revolt against the Word of God, not atheists at a gay pride parade who need someone to bear witness to the truth. These people know the truth and have rejected it. Not only that, they want everyone else in the church to reject it, too. Christian Research Net reports.

Pastor Rick Warren's Lie

Is Richard Abanes For Real?

After behaving like an apologist for Rick Warren & Purpose Driven, defending and explaining even Rick Warren's invitation to partial birth abortion  arch advocate Barak Obama to his pulpit in  Mr. Warren's Saddleback church, Richard Abanes seems caught in a quagmire of his own design.  In a series of circulated emails, Richard Abanes (of that church) has selectively posted half the emails exchanged in this regard on his web site (with-holding the other half),  apparently in an effort to distance himself from Warren and his own comments in  support of Warren.

Such conduct does not appear only hypocritical, but irrational.

Anyone of serious merit and intent wishing to see proof of this should ask Mr Abanes for a copy of his apologetic statement on behalf of Rick Warren and all of the e mails (which we have copies of). If he refuses, the reason why should be obvious.

Posting a defense of Warren 's actions on his website and then trying to remove himself from what he himself wrote and web posted on the same web site is absolutely hideous.

Is this man for real?

Our decision is to ignore him as a lost cause as we can only engage with people who behave in a rational manner.

A Mediocre Merry Christmas Message

by Mike Oppenheimer
Let Us Reason

At Christmas time, Lauren Green on Fox News hosted Rick Warrens Christmas service called "Christmas with Rick Warren." This is an opportunity most pastors would love to have- a large captive audience at Christmas time to give the saving message of the gospel to millions of people. But was the gospel presented?

The following are highlights of his sermon with an observation, analysis and biblical assessment.

Purpose-Driven to the Far Left

Laigle's Forum

According to the Family Research Council, a new Barna poll shows that the "born again," whatever that might mean this week, now overwhelmingly support Hillary (20% of the "born again" vote) and Obama (18%).

How is it possible that seemingly devout Christians could support the party that stands like a phalanx behind partial birth abortion and redefining marriage into oblivion and opposes biblical free market principles?

Critical Issues Commentary

"For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe." (1Corinthians 1:21)

A few months ago a friend phoned to ask if I had ever heard of Rick Warren. "Yes" I replied. "Why are you asking" ? He said, "I just got kicked out of a Bible Study for bringing my Bible to it." That is how the idea for this article came to me.

Megachurch pastor Rick Warren attended a large Reform Jewish gathering last week to share tips on how to build a community.

Warren - who saw his church expand from seven people meeting in his house to 22,000 people worshipping in an expansive treasure island-like campus " “ said the key to holding onto visitors is involving them in a small group.
