This edition of Be Alert! looks at the war taking place between two temples that is a very obvious to the alert believer paying attention to recent world events as well as those historical.

This commenced on earth when man fell and will continue until the Lord returns.

One temple is being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood in which our Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ is the capstone.

Believers, made up of both Jew and Gentile who trust in Christ for their salvation are likened to living stones being fitted together to construct this temple.

The other temple is made in the image of man by the works of man, and is waiting to usher in the antichrist (whether those involved in the building of it, know it or not) to come and be it's capstone.

It is very interesting and a bit unnerving to note that every previous temple of God was "destroyed" in some way. The first (King Solomon's) by the Babylonians, the second by Rome and then there is Jesus Himself who likened His own body to a temple and was crucified.

But as the scripture tells us, Jesus said "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." This was literally fulfilled with His resurrection.

We are now seeing the destruction of the church as we know it through the falling away, deception (the serpent) and persecution (the dragon). But He will raise us up also at His coming as a glorified body.

On the contrary, the temple of man, that great statue Nebuchadnezzar saw, and today pictured many times as a pyramid with the "all seeing eye" (of the false god Horus, interestingly, the "Sky god" - really a fallen angel - think: prince of the power of the air) that adorns the god of money and various human agencies will be destroyed by a stone cut without hands, the Lord Himself, and His Kingdom will become a great mountain that fills the whole earth.
Blessed be the name of the LORD!
    BE ALERT!

Note: You will notice the strange spelling added to some of the words in a few of the article dealing with Christian bookstores. Sadly, we have reached such a point of depravity among so-called church that when you try to warn the brethren it triggers filters for lude and vile material. I have tried to keep it as clean as possible not wanting to offend or put a stumbling block in front of anyone.
Also, please understand that these are not a collection of odd and/or rare events but what has now become the standard fare in much of the western evangelical and charismatic church (and these are the most Biblically sound just as the Pharisees were in Jesus day despite most popular misconceptions).

    1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

    1 Peter 2:5
you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

    John 15:20
"Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

    John 2:19
Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

    Acts of the Apostles 27:18-22
The next day as we were being violently storm-tossed, they began to jettison the cargo; and on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands. Since neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm was assailing us, from then on all hope of our being saved was gradually abandoned. When they had gone a long time without food, then Paul stood up in their midst and said, "Men, you ought to have followed my advice and not to have set sail from Crete and incurred this damage and loss. "Yet now I urge you to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

    2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so- called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

    Matthew 16:18
"I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

When grandmas go to jail for witnessing
WORLDNETDAILY - By Janet Folger - February 7, 2007 -- Arrested for sharing the Gospel? An expected outcome in North Korea, China or any Muslim country on the globe. But in Pennsylvania? Yep. Arlene Elshinnawy, a 75-year-old grandmother of three, and Lynda Beckman, a 70-year- old grandmother of 10 (along with nine others), were arrested for sharing their faith on the public sidewalk in Philadelphia, Pa., USA. They faced 47 years (the rest of their lives) in jail for spreading the Gospel because of a Pennsylvania "hate crimes" law that is nearly identical to H.R. 254 – the "hate crimes" bill reintroduced in Congress and said to be on the "fast track" in the House Judiciary Committee. This is the same bill that previously passed both the House and Senate and was killed only because of Republican leadership opposition in conference – something we no longer have.
Don't believe hate crimes will silence your freedom of speech and freedom of religion? Think again.
Pastors in Pennsylvania are now seeking liability insurance to protect themselves from being prosecuted under the "hate speech" law. That's right. They are reacting to Pennsylvania's addition of "sexual orientation" to the state's hate crimes laws. Of particular concern was the expansion of the definition of "harassment" to include "harassment by communication" – which means one could be convicted based upon spoken words alone.
Their fear is a rational one. Hate crimes invariably lead to fines and jail time for those who "violate" them. Just ask Sweden's Pastor Ake Green. Green faced jail time for the content of his sermon. He read from Romans Chapter 1 – something that is no longer legal in Sweden.
The "hate crimes" – or more appropriately, "thought crimes" – bill is the single most dangerous bill in America. Along with its companion, the "Employment Non-Discrimination Act," or ENDA – "Thought Crimes for your Business"– is expected to pass this session of Congress. Bow to the homosexual agenda – endorse, embrace, subsidize and celebrate it – or go out of business. That's what it did to the largest and most respected adoption agency in Boston, Catholic Charities, who, by refusing to place vulnerable orphans in homosexual homes, was forced to close its doors. England's about to get a dose of the same.
But you don't speak out about homosexuality, you say? Think you're safe? Think again. Here are just a few examples I've highlighted my book, "The Criminalization of Christianity," where you'll find a whole lot more.
Protest Islam? That's a hate crime!
Maybe it had something to do with Sept. 11. Maybe it had something to do with the beheadings. Maybe it had something to do with what is written in the Quran. But Canadian Pastor Mark Harding doesn't believe the Muslim religion is one of peace. So when his local high school started handing out copies of the Quran and announced a policy of setting aside a room for Muslim students to pray during school hours, Pastor Harding protested. Didn't think it was a good idea – especially since Christian, Jewish and Buddhist kids weren't afforded the same opportunity.
After losing an appeal to Canada's Supreme Court Oct. 17, 2002, Harding was said to have "willfully promoted hatred" in violation of Canadian law that had just passed six months earlier. He was then forced to undergo two years probation and 340 hours of "community service" at the Islamic Society of North America in Mississauga, Ontario.
So, for the "crime" of handing out leaflets protesting a high school's pro-Muslim policy, Pastor Harding was ordered to do community service to further the very religion he morally opposed. ---
California 'hate crimes' law – pro-lifers automatic suspects
"Hate crimes" bill, SB 1234, was signed into law by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Sept. 22, 2004. SB 1234 creates a new hate-crime training requirement for law enforcement called "multimission criminal extremism." In addition to those categories already considered for special punishment under the term "hate crimes," the new multimission criminal extremism training adds "anti-reproductive-rights crimes."
That means if you are pro-life, you are an automatic suspect, and law enforcement is being specially trained on how to handle you. ---
This law also expands "crimes" to include "speech" interpreted as "threats, intimidation and coercion." As long as a "victim" claims the speech makes them "feel" "intimidated," violators will be liable to penalties of $10,000-$25,000 and a year in jail.
"[And] any person who says they are 'fearful' because someone has said homosexuality is wrong could have the speaker arrested and jailed," according to James Hartline, California pro-family activist.
This will be used to criminalize expressions of biblical truth about homosexuality as "hate speech" and could very well target not just organizations who disagree with homosexuality, but Christian bookstores that carry books like "The Criminalization of Christianity" or another book already ruled to contain "intimidating" beliefs: the Bible. ---

Why Doctrinal Preaching Declines
by Arthur W. Pink

'Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.' 2 Timothy 2:15

'For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.' 2Timothy.4:3-4.

During the last two or three generations the pulpit has given less and less prominence to doctrinal preaching, until today, with very rare exceptions, it has no place at all. In some quarters the cry from the pew was, 'we want living experience and not dry doctrine'; in others, 'we need practical sermons and not metaphysical dogmas'; and yet others, Give us Christ and not theology. Sad to say, such senseless cries were generally heeded: 'senseless' we say, for there is no other safe way of testing experience, as there is no foundation for practicals to be built upon if they be divorced from Scriptural doctrine; while Christ cannot be known unless he be preached (1Cor.1:23), and he certainly cannot be 'preached' if doctrine is shelved. Various reasons may be given for the lamentable failure of the pulpit, chief among them being laziness, desire for popularity, superficial and lop-sided evangelism, and love of the sensational'.
Laziness. It is a far more exacting task, one which calls for much closer confinement in the study, to prepare a series of sermons on, say the doctrine of justification, than it does to make addresses on prayer, missions, or personal-work. It demands a far wider acquaintance with the Scriptures, a more rigid disciplining of the mind, and a more extensive perusal of the older writers. But this was too exacting for most of the ministers, and so they chose the line of least resistance and followed an easier course. It is because of his proneness to this weakness that the minister is particularly exhorted, 'Give attendance to reading ... take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine: continue in them' (1Tim.4:13,16); and again, 'Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, (2Tim.2: 15).
Desire for popularity. It is natural that the preacher should wish to please his hearers, but it is spiritual for him to desire and aim at the approbation of God. Nor can any man serve two masters. As the apostle expressly declared, 'For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ' (Gal.1:10): solemn words are those! How they condemn them whose chief aim is to preach to crowded churches! Yet what grace it requires to swim against the tide of public opinion, and preach that which is unacceptable to the natural man. But on the other hand, how fearful will be the doom of those who, from a determination to curry favour with men, deliberately withheld those portions of the truth most needed by their hearers. 'Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it' (Deut.4:2). Oh to be able to say with Paul, 'I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you ... I am pure from the blood of all' (Acts.20:20, 26).
A superficial and lop-sided 'evangelism'. Many of the pulpiteers of the past fifty years acted as though the first and last object of their calling was the salvation of souls, everything being made to bend to that aim. In consequence, the feeding of the sheep, the maintaining of a Scriptural discipline in the church, and the inculcation of practical piety, was crowded out; and only too often all sorts of worldly devices and fleshly methods were employed under the plea that the end justified the means; and thus the churches were filled with unregenerate members. In reality, such men defeated their own aim. The hard heart must be ploughed and harrowed before it can be receptive to the gospel seed. Doctrinal instruction must be given on the character of God, the requirements of his Law, the nature and heinousness of sin, if a foundation is to be laid for true evangelism. It is useless to preach Christ unto souls until they see and feel their desperate need of him.

'Christian' bookstore features exX - rated flicks
Columnist raises question of just what makes retailer biblical
WORLDNETDAILY - By Bob Unruh - February 1, 2007 - - When NewsWithView s.com writer Paul Proctor wrote in a new column that parents should make sure their kids are out of the room and the door is locked before going to a Christi an Heritage Bookstore website, he was serious.
Because among the items featured at the "Christian Heritage Bookstore" along with 14-karat gold cross earrings and the like are the exX - rated "P--- boy: exX Mates, Vol. 1 – BMX/Wakeboards," and an adult 4-pack of "classics" titled "Debbie D--s Dallas," "D--p T----t," "Behind the Green Door," and "The D---l in Miss Jones."
Right there on the same page that quotes Psalms 119, verse 111, "Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart," is a listing for "Rated exX – A Journey through P- -n." ---
"Ever think you'd see that on a Christian website?" Proctor asks in his column. "That's right – 'Christian Heritage Bookstore.'" ---
"Friends, we've got a serious problem in the online Christian bookstore industry. In fact, someone really needs to ask the question: Just what is a Christian Bookstore?" Proctor wrote. ---
At Christ ianResearchService.com, which says one of its goals is to "alert and warn fellow Christians about spiritual deception outside and within the body of Christ," Christian Heritage Bookstore and its related companies have been given the "Shelves of Shame Award."
That organization also reported on some objectionable materials listed on the website for the Southern Baptist Convention, the Lifeway Christian Resources, although they dealt more with the fringe of theology rather than explicit s-x. But the Research group noted that managers made changes in their stock lists when they were made aware of the concerns over their compliance with biblical teachings.
Earlier, Proctor had reported that LifeWay had removed more than a dozen books on yoga and Eastern Mysticism from its Internet catalogue after hearing concerns from Christian Research Service chief Bud Press.
Proctor also reported he'd found theologically objectionable publications being sold by the American Family Association.
"Remember Peter Singer? He's that controversial fellow WorldNetDaily just wrote about in a September 14th article entitled: 'Bioethicist': OK to kill babies after they're born.
"The WND piece begins this way:
"An internationally known Princeton 'bioethicist' and animal-rights activist says he'd kill disabled babies if it were in the 'best interests' of the family, because he sees no distinction in the child's life whether it is born or not, and the world already allows abortion." ---
"Well, if you would like to read more about Mr. Singer's family values, you can find a couple of his books for sale at AFA's American Family Resource Center," Proctor wrote at the time.
The AFA has responded by making changes in its product lists as well.
"Now before you lose your cool and fire off an indignant e-mail or letter to some editor, webmaster or religious leader, you need to know this: Many of them don't know what they're selling. That's the good news. The bad news is, some of them do," Proctor continued.
He suggested Christians be more diligent in researching the authors they purchase, and referred people to a master list compiled by Christian Research Service as a tool to begin. ---

exX - rated Christian store's troubles traced to Amazon
Service sets up retail outlets, but uses Internet giant's search engine
WORLDNETDAILY - By Bob Unruh - February 1, 2007 - - The troubles that allowed customers at an online Christian bookstore to call up exX - rated books and movies have been traced back to Amazon.com, the Internet behemoth that has in the past implemented a series of distinctly anti-Christian policies. ---
Marty Svare, the owner of the site, based in Bemidji, Minn., told WND that the Christian bookstore was a goal he'd had for a long time, and it was set up through another company that used Amazon- originated software to run searches.
He said he'd spent hours returning e-mails from concerned customers, and explained that if the website search engine found the customer's desired product within his defined domain, it displayed that product. If it didn't find the product, he said, the Amazon search engine would take over, bringing up virtually anything on the web. ---
He said if a permanent solution isn't available, he'll shut down the site. ---
His site was built using a service called www.ChristianBookNet.com, which bills itself as an "online Christian bookstore solution provider for churches, ministries and Christian individuals."
Officials there did not return WND requests for comment, but their online pages confirm that their system is based "upon Amazon.com's Web Services API (Application Programming Interface)."

The Dirty Little Secret About Many Online Christian Bookstores
By Paul Proctor - February 6, 2007 - NEWS WITH VIEWS.com
What they don't tell you about their problematic publications
The purpose of our efforts to reveal some of the unfortunate items being offered for sale in many of today's online Christian bookstores is not to condemn their owners or operators but rather to raise awareness of an old and reoccurring problem in the industry itself and in the process, warn unsuspecting Christians of the dangers lurking within these seemingly innocent outlets before they or their children find out by accident.
Again, this problem is not new. And, the dirty little secret about the filth and heresy being marketed in a lot of Christian bookstores is this: Even after customers and critics complain and questionable titles are removed, more often than not, they come back. This allows the bookstore owner to repeatedly say: "We removed those books" without ever mentioning that they might someday return or maybe already have. Clever, huh?
So, just because the junk goes away for a while, that doesn't mean it will stay away.
But, in all fairness, it's also quite common for once- blocked books to reappear for sale in their online stores without their knowledge. This is the result of being "unequally yoked" to secular suppliers and why it is incumbent upon each Christian bookstore owner and operator to search their own sites regularly to know what they're offering for sale at all times. Sure it takes work and costs money to baby-sit your bookstore, but if you don't do it, who will? And, if you delegate your spiritual duty over to a p----graphic provider, you have no one to blame but yourself for having to endure the shame and embarrassment of fellow Christians chastising you over finding filth on your website.
Solutions:
1. The authors must be blocked permanently.
2. Do not yoke yourself to suppliers and distributors who don't share your biblical values or convictions.

Even Christian music can't redeem Maple Palm
RENEW AMERICA – Commentary by Robert Duncan - October 23, 2006 -- Self-published Christian songwriter Rebecca Hansen has no qualms regarding her participation in a film that some people are calling 'Brokeback H--ters.' In fact, Hansen even considered playing the lead l--bian role.
A tacky g-y-rights flick to make Ed Wood proud features the voice and music of a Christian singer — a singer who for years served on worship teams at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church.
But even the Christian music angle can't redeem this film's soft-p--n touch: ---
According to the story-line Maple Palm is about a l--bian couple of fifteen years who have been living with the secret that one of them is an undocumented immigrant. "After visiting the Statue of Liberty, the girls return home to Los Angeles, unaware that a routine security check at the icon of freedom was about to strip them of their own."
The producers of Maple Palm — which was filmed in just two weeks — admit that they are playing the religion card, describing the film's soundtrack that features Rebecca Hansen and Katy J as "an edgy, eclectic mix of Christian music and alternative rock." Reads one press statement, "Rebecca, a devout Christian known for religious ballads, is excited to see her music featured in a l--bian love story where her lyrics take on a profound duality in meaning."
"I get angry at discrimination. Maybe part of that was being raised by a father who was a bigot," says Hansen, a divorced mother of two young adults. "All people have the right to get married — white, g-y, Hispanic or black," she says, adding that while she isn't g-y she is "a liberal Christian." ---

Sorry Rebecca, but your either extremely ignorant of the word of God and therefore need to "study to show thyself approved" and then repent, or you are just deceived and unsaved, because this has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with sin that leads a person to eternal separation from God in hell. Your beliefs and actions are not full of love but of hate and are an incredible testimony to the sort of fruit Rick Warren's Saddleback produces.

Imam leads Democrats in prayer of conversion
Muslim leader at party's winter meeting also asks Allah to stop 'the occupation'
WORLDNETDAILY - February 3, 2007 -- With heads bowed reverently, Democrats were led in prayer yesterday by a Muslim imam who essentially asked Allah to assist in converting the party members to Islam, according to a scholar and author.
Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch and author of "The Truth about Muhammad," took note of the prayer given at the Democratic National Committee winter meeting by Husham Al-Husainy, imam of the Karbalaa Islamic Education Center, a shiite mosque in Dearborn, Mich.
According to a transcript of the prayer, which can be seen on a video clip provided by HotAir.com, the imam said:
In the name of God the most merciful, the most compassionate. We thank you, God, to bless us among your creations. We thank you, God, to make us as a great nation. We thank you God, to send us your messages through our father Abraham and Moses and Jesus and Muhammad. Through you, God, we unite. So guide us to the right path. The path of the people you bless, not the path of the people you doom. Help us God to liberate and fill this earth with justice and peace and love and equality. And help us to stop the war and violence, and oppression and occupation. Ameen.
Spencer, in a post on his Jihad Watch website, said he found it interesting to see the Muslim leader praying, "in veiled terms to be sure, for their conversion to Islam, and, oh yes, for the destruction of Israel ("And help us to stop the war and violence, and oppression and occupation"). ---

Congressman Virgil Goode to attend Muslim gathering
RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH - February 1, 2007 -- Congressman Virgil H. Goode Jr., after meeting with an interfaith group, has indicated he would accept an invitation to attend a Muslim gathering.
"I said I would go to a gathering sometime if we could work out the time. That's nothing new. I've been to Hindu gatherings, I think a Buddhist gathering; I go to anything that's in my district, and even outside," Goode, R-5th, said yesterday. He also has met with Muslim students in a university area, he said.
"We are working on setting up" a chance for Goode to attend a Muslim gathering or service, said Vince Isner of Charlottesville, director of FaithfulAmerica, an online program sponsored by the National Council of Churches.
A delegation of religious leaders, including three Muslims and Isner, met with Goode recently in his Washington office, Isner said yesterday. "We - felt it would be helpful for Mr. Goode to meet Muslims and people who understand the importance of all religions in our country," Isner said. ---

Left Allows Europe to Fall to Muslims
By Rabbi Aryeh Spero - February 8, 2007 - HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE
In a recent interview, Prof. Bernard Lewis, famed historian and leading expert on Islam, warned that "Muslims seem to be about to take over Europe." The irony is that this takeover -- be it in 10 years or 30 - - is not because Islam has more tanks or better missiles than the Europeans. It is because the minority Islamic populations already living within Europe are making demands to Islamize Europe and no one seems to be willing to say no. No one has the political will to announce to the Islamic communities that daily life and laws in Europe must be in accord with the Western outlook that is Europe's heritage.
Was the fall of Europe inevitable? No, according to Prof. Lewis, who says it is coming about because "Europeans have surrendered on every issue regarding Islamic demands, due to political correctness and multi-culturalism." Europe has become woefully secular and its tepid attachment to a forgotten and dismissed Christianity is no match for the zeal of Muslims who remain fervent believers in their faith. Having been force fed that all cultures are equally valid, Europeans consider it unenlightened to assert the primacy of their culture even in their own countries. ---

Beth - Israel and the Temple Mount
Muslim Riot on Temple Mount
ARUTZ SHEVA - By Ezra HaLevi - February 9, 2007 -- Arabs rioted Friday on and around the Temple Mount, wounding police officers and causing the evacuation of the Western Wall prayer plaza.
Stones were thrown at worshipers and police Friday, despite the decision to limit entry to the Temple Mount to Muslims over the age of 45. Three police officers were wounded by rioters.
Young rioters pelted police with stones and then took cover inside the Al-Aksa Mosque. Security sources said the youths had probably holed up inside the mosque earlier this week, and waited for Friday to begin rioting. Police refrained from entering the mosque due to concerns that it would serve Muslim propoganda efforts and claims that Israel is seeking to destroy it.
3,000 members of the security forces were standing by in expectation of Arab violence as a result of calls for an Israeli-Arab Intifada by Muslim leaders. The calls come in response to the repair and replacement of the Rambam (Mughrabi) Gate walkway, which was in danger of collapse.
Police entered the Mount, Judaism's holiest site and fired stun grenades at the rioters in response to the violence.

Israel allows minaret over Temple Mount
Olmert consents to Muslim prayer tower while denying Jewish plans for synagogue
WORLDNETDAILY - By Aaron Klein - February 1, 2007 -- JERUSALEM –- Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has given permission for Jordan to build a large minaret adjacent to a mosque on the Temple Mount to call Muslims to prayer at the holy site, WND has learned. The minaret will stand at a site on the Mount where Jewish groups here had petitioned to build a synagogue. A minaret is a tower usually attached to a mosque from which Muslims are called to the five Islamic daily prayers.
There are four minarets on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism. The new minaret will be the largest one yet. It will be the first built on the Temple Mount in over 600 years and is slated to tower over the walls of Jerusalem's old city. It will reside next to the Al-Marwani Mosque, located at the site of Solomon's Stables.
Aryeh Eldad, a Knesset member from Israel's National Union party, last year drew up plans with Jewish groups to build a synagogue near the Marwani Mosque. The synagogue was to be built in accordance with rulings from several prominent rabbis, who said Jews can ascend the Mount at certain areas.
A top leader of the Waqf – the Islamic custodians of the Mount – told WND Olmert's granting of permission to build the minaret in the synagogue's place "confirms 100-percent the Haram al-Sharif (Temple Mount) belongs to Muslims."
"This proves Jewish conspiracies for a synagogue will never succeed and solidifies our presence here. It will make Muslims worldwide more secure that the Jews will never take over the Haram al-Sharif," the Waqf official said.
Sources in the Jordanian monarchy and the Waqf told WND Olmert earlier this month gave Jordan's King Abdullah official permission to build the minaret. The sources said the minaret will rise 130 feet above the ancient walls of Jerusalem.
A senior Olmert adviser today confirmed to WND the Israeli prime minister told Abdullah he will allow the minaret's construction. ---

Jordan King Complains of Israeli Odors
ASSOCIATED PRESS - January 1, 2007 -- JERUSALEM –- Jordanian King Abdullah II has complained of bovine odors coming from the Israeli side of the frontier along the countries' shared southern border, Israel's environment minister said Monday.
Speaking to Israel Radio, Gideon Ezra said the smells, from a livestock quarantine facility, were blown across the frontier toward the king's palace in the town of Aqaba, on the Red Sea next to the Israeli town of Eilat. Jordanian officials contacted Israel last week and requested the odors be neutralized, Ezra said.
Jordan and Israel, enemies for decades, signed a peace agreement in 1994 and now enjoy close ties.

FORWARD – By Nathan Guttman - January 18, 2007 -- Washington -- Saudi Arabia is stepping up efforts to make its peace initiative — based on a quick Israeli return to the 1967 borders and prompt establishment of a Palestinian state — a key plank in American foreign policy.
According to American and Arab diplomatic sources in Washington, the Saudis have been pressing for a more active role in attempting to resolve the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. One diplomat said that the Saudi push reflects the prevailing notion among the kingdom’s leaders that existing peace efforts directed by the United States are not bearing fruit and will not bring a swift conclusion to the conflict.
At the same time, sources said, some officials of the United States believe that an American embrace of the Saudi plan would increase Riyadh’s support for America’s approach to Iraq and Iran. ---

Iranian agents caught in Gaza
Palestinians say 7 military trainers including Revolutionary Guard general captured
WORLDNETDAILY - By Aaron Klein - February 1, 2007 -- JERUSALEM -- Security forces associated with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party today captured seven Iranian military trainers – including a general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards – at a purported Hamas training facility in the Gaza Strip, Fatah security officials told WND.
The Fatah officials said a raid of the Hamas dominated Islamic University in Gaza yielded the Iranian agents, 1,000 Qassam rockets and equipment to manufacture the Qassams. According to the Fatah officials, one of the Iranian agents attempted suicide prior to his capture. ---
Earlier this month, WND quoted Fatah and Israeli intelligence officials stating Hamas members have been flying to Iran for advanced military training with Iranian Revolutionary guard units and Hezbollah militants.
The Israeli officials said they fear the training will greatly improve Hamas' military capability in any future battle with Israeli troops in Gaza. They said Hamas was seeking to learn from Hezbollah military tactics used against Israel during this summer's war in Lebanon. ---

Groups Head to Emirates, as Worries Grow Over Iran
FORWARD – By Marc Perelman - January 19, 2007 -- The main umbrella group of American Jewish organizations is set to visit Dubai and Abu Dhabi next month in a sign of the growing concern among Sunni regimes over Iran’s nuclear and regional ambitions.
The trip, by a delegation from the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations to the main power centers of the United Arab Emirates, is notable because the Sunni-majority UAE does not have formal diplomatic ties with Israel. ---
The UAE has no diplomatic ties with Israel and still adheres to the primary Arab boycott against trade with the Jewish state. Even though it abandoned the so- called secondary and tertiary boycotts against third- party firms that trade with Israel, the American Jewish delegation will not be flying directly from Israel; instead it will travel via Amman, Jordan, to reach the UAE. ---

Did the President Declare a "Secret War" Against Syria and Iran?
GLOBAL RESEARCH: CENTRE FOR RESEARCH ON GLOBALIZATION - by Steve Clemons - January 13, 2007 -- Washington intelligence, military and foreign policy circles are abuzz today with speculation that the President, yesterday or in recent days, sent a secret Executive Order to the Secretary of Defense and to the Director of the CIA to launch military operations against Syria and Iran.
The President may have started a new secret, informal war against Syria and Iran without the consent of Congress or any broad discussion with the country.
The bare outlines of that order may have appeared in President Bush's Address to the Nation last night outlining his new course on Iraq:
Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity and stabilizing the region in the face of extremist challenges. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq. ---

North America activists plotted 'stealth' strategy
Details of secret Banff meeting released as part of FOIA request
WORLDNETDAILY - By Joseph Farah - January 30, 2007 -- WASHINGTON –- Participants in a high-level, closed door, three-day conference on the integration of the three North American nations debated whether openness about goals was preferred to a stealthy policy of building infrastructure before a vision of the end result was even laid out to the people of the U.S., Mexico and Canada, according to notes obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Official notes taken on a session on "Border Infrastructure and Continental Prosperity" at the North American Forum in Banff, Canada, last September, reveal the internal debate over continued secrecy.
"While a vision is appealing, working on the infrastructure might yield more benefit and bring more people on board ('evolution by stealth')," record the notes discovered amid documents obtained by Judicial Watch.
Several speakers at the event emphasized the importance of "deepening economic integration," "integrating the energy infrastructure" and "the development of new institutions" between the three North American nations.
Participants promoted the idea of using popular issues, such as concern over climate change, to push integration of energy and environmental governance and the possibility of imposing a carbon tax. ---
At least one attendee of the conference said the meeting was intended to subvert the democratic process. Mel Hurtig, a Canadian author and publisher elected as the leader of the National Party of Canada, told WND last fall the idea of the North American Forum is to move the countries toward integration without public consent or even knowledge.
"What is sinister about this meeting is that it involved high level government officials and some of the top and most powerful business leaders of the three countries and the North American Forum in organizing the meeting intentionally did not inform the press in any of the three countries," he said. "It was clear that the intention was to keep this important meeting about integrating the three countries out of the public eye."
The conference raised more suspicions about plans for the future merger of the U.S., Canada and Mexico – with topics ranging from "A Vision for North America," "Opportunities for Security Cooperation" and "Demographic and Social Dimensions of North American Integration." ---

Texas newspapers sold to Australian interests
Editorial change could silence critics of superhighways
WORLDNETDAILY - By Jerome R. Corsi - January 29, 2007 -- Macquarie, an Australian investment consortium involved in leasing U.S. toll roads, has begun acquiring newspapers in Texas, a move critics say is designed to silence grassroots objection to the planned Trans-Texas Corridor.
That highway project is believed to be part of a much larger plan that eventually could, critics allege, tie the economies, lifestyles and even governments of the United States, Mexico and Canada together.
Halyard Capital just days ago announced the sale of its portfolio company, American Consolidated Media, which publishes 40 community newspapers and shopping publications in nine Texas and Oklahoma communities, to the Macquarie Media Group for $80 million.
Sal Costello, the founder of TexasTollParty .com and a vocal critic of the Texas Department of Transportation plans to build the Trans- Texas Corridor toll road parallel to Interstate 35, told WND the newspaper deal was "absurd."
"Macquarie being allowed to buy these newspapers is just another con job," said Costello, obviously upset at the acquisition. "Macquarie is buying our news organizations to hide the fact that they are stealing our land."
On his blog, Costello had noted that the Macquarie purchase comes "after the ACM’s rural independent newspapers have been the most vocal opposition to the Trans Texas Corridor."
"Countless articles over the past months and years peg the TTC as an eminent domain land grab. ACM’s publications had placed serious political pressure on the TTC," he said. "The newspapers are the main communication tool for many of the rural Texas communities, with many citizens at risk of losing their homes and farms through eminent domain. Future TTC contracts are estimated to affect about one- half million acres of land, and 4,000 miles of Texas toll roads."
Macq uarie Media Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of Macquarie Group Australia which also owns the Macquarie Infrastructure Group, one of the largest private developers of toll roads in the world. ---

US Immigration Crack-down: Scared Smithfield workers stay home
THE FAYETTEVILLE OBSERVER - By Jennifer Plotnick - January 26, 2007 -- -- TAR HEEL -- The 21 Smithfield Packing Co. employees arrested by immigration officials while they worked Wednesday are in the process of being deported.
The 20 men and one woman arrested were moved Thursday from the Mecklenburg County Jail to Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Ga., nearly 700 miles from Tar Heel.
Meanwhile, church officials within the region’s Hispanic community and spokespeople with the United Food & Commercial Workers union said the workers’ families didn’t know where they were and other immigrant workers were terrified of more arrests.
The workers are going through “removal proceedings,” said Marc Raimondi, a spokesman with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Washington. ---
IMAGE program
The arrests stem from information gleaned about the employees since Smithfield joined the IMAGE program last year. Under IMAGE — which stands for ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers — Smithfield must now cross reference all employees’ names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and genders.
Smithfield has been criticized for joining the program, but Pittman has said the company had no choice if it wanted to avoid immigration raids. He said ICE told the company it was coming on Wednesday and said it wasn’t a raid.
Union and church officials repeatedly pointed fingers at the pork processing plant for the arrests. Some people said the workers who were most vocal about unionization were some of those arrested.
There’s been talk of unionization at the plant for a decade.
A statement from the union Thursday said arrests are likely to continue and that ICE violated its own guidelines, “which preclude the agency from facilitating the use of immigration laws of enforcement to intervene in the course of a labor dispute,” the statement said.
“The entire community has been terrorized,” said Gene Bruskin, head of the Smithfield Justice Campaign, a national coalition backed by the union. ---

Washington State initiative would require married couples to have kids
NORTHWEST CABLE NEWS [NWCN] - By KING5.com Staff and Associated Press - February 6, 2007 -- OLYMPIA, Wash. -- An initiative filed by proponents of same-sex marriage would require heterosexual couples to have kids within three years or else have their marriage annulled.
Initiative 957 was filed by the Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance. That group was formed last summer after the state Supreme Court upheld Washington's ban on same-sex marriage.
Under the initiative, marriage would be limited to men and women who are able to have children. Couples would be required to prove they can have children in order to get a marriage license, and if they did not have children within three years, their marriage would be subject to annulment.
All other marriages would be defined as "unrecognized" and people in those marriages would be ineligible to receive any marriage benefits.
“For many years, social conservatives have claimed that marriage exists solely for the purpose of procreation ... The time has come for these conservatives to be dosed with their own medicine," said WA-DOMA organizer Gregory Gadow in a printed statement. “If same-sex couples should be barred from marriage because they can not have children together, it follows that all couples who cannot or will not have children together should equally be barred from marriage."
