Be Alert! - Oct. 2, 2006
Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) is on Monday (Sunday night), 10 Tishrei 5767 (October 2, 2006). Leviticus 16:2-3 The LORD said to Moses:"Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die; for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat. "Aaron shall enter the holy place with this: with a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. Leviticus 16:5-6 Leviticus 16:11 Leviticus 16:15-17 Leviticus 16:20-22 Leviticus 16:29-31 Isaiah 52:13-15 Matthew 27:21-25 Matthew 27:50-51 Hebrews 9:1-15 Romans 3:21-26 Picture Gallary: 1) Los Angeles Smogline 2) Rare Noctilucent clouds over Finland 3) Megacryometeor (Giant Hail) 4) Chemtrails over Kansas 5) Chemtrails over Las Vegas 6) Mega-Sprayer over Sante Fe, NM 11-30-1999 7) A Chembow 8) Rare Nacreous Clouds over Mawson Station, Antartica 7-25-2006 9) Fluorescent Green Glowing Rat Pups Born from Mice (Yes it's true!-see story below) What on earth is happening to the earth? Three previous times in the history of the world God has had to directly intervene to stop man from going too far. The first time was at the fall when man became like God in the sense of knowing good and evil. Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"-- therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life. - Genesis 3:22-24 Since man was designed to live eternally, eternal life as a sinful fallen creature would have meant eternity with Satan by default. When God intervened and blocked man from gaining access to immortality He was only protecting us from going directly to eternal death in Hell and giving us a chance for eventual life with Him. God's second direct intervention came in the days of Noah with the flood: Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years."The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. - Genesis 6:1-6 The sons of God (ben 'elohiym) were clearly demonic beings (fallen angels) looking to somehow do what they were not supposed to be able to do, that is multiply. This is further confirmed in 2 Peter and Jude. By doing this they had tainted the genetic line of men so God had to intervene and wipe out everyone except Noah and his family who were clearly faithful believers in God and also un-tainted genetic humans. The third time God had to intervene directly in man's affairs was at the Tower of Babel. Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. They said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly." And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. They said, "Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth." The LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. The LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another's speech." So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth. - Genesis 11:1-9 Babel means (bab) gate of (el) god, or gateway to god(s). We tend to think of ourselves as technologically superior to our antecessors but something was happening in Babel that made God unwilling to just sit around and observe. Nimrod was the world ruler whose name means "to rebel" and he was a mighty hunter before the LORD which really means "to be in the face of". So we had defiant and rebellious world leadership with some kind of technology or knowledge that they were using to build this tower that was really a gateway to the gods bringing man right back to Genesis 6, so God had to intervene. That is the general topic of this alert. Man is doing things that are coming very close to crossing the lines that God drew where He has to intervene again. BE /\ LERT! Luke 21:25-26 Revelation 11:18 Revelation 16:8 Revelation 16:21 NASA Cassini Images: Sunrise Over Saturn and its Rings NASA – JPL - CIT -- September 24, 2006 http://www.saturntoday.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=22164 Scientist Says Chemtrails, Shuttle Launches Endangering Earth It was one of those messages that phones are notorious for delivering—the kind of call that cancels the sleep and makes flu symptoms worse. But this time, the health of the entire planet was at stake. WILLTHOMAS.net - by William Thomas - August 7, 2006 - A concerned Canadian scientist named Neil Finley was on the line to inform me that high-altitude jet traffic, space launches and chemtrails are threatening to destroy not only Earth’s protective radiation shielding—but the stratosphere itself. This wasn’t entirely news. Ken Caldeira, the scientist at the Lawrence Livermore atom bomb laboratories who had run Edward Teller’s computer simulations for an atmospheric “sunscreen” had earlier told me that a program involving the spraying of millions of tons of sunlight-reflecting chemicals high in the stratosphere could “destroy the ozone layer.” What was news was an atmospheric scientists expressing concern over chemtrails. CHEMBOWS Sunlight reflected from that massive unnatural cloud through his tinted sun visor “occulted” the sun, as he described it, into prismatic bars: “all pink, green and purple.” Such “birefringence,” Finley explained, “never happens with water vapor, because color separation only occurs in a crystal index of refraction.” Say again? Such prismatic interferences with wavelengths of light only occur with “extremely, extremely fine solid material,” Finley tried again. These fine, suspended particles “causes interference patterns around each particle, changing the color of the light.” Finley said he was specifically referring to the chemicals artificially released into the sky by “tankers”. While water vapor freezing into high-altitude ice crystals can put “sundogs” around the sun and an occasional halo around the moon, the oily rainbow colors much more commonly seen in jet-trails and artificial clouds are chemical signatures, he related. EARTH’S OZONE LAYER STILL SHREDDING After years of misleading media reports hailing Earth’s “recovering ozone layer”, we are still “on the cusp” of ozone recovery, says atmospheric researcher Elizabeth Weatherhead at the University of Colorado and lead author of the most recent ozone study. [Nature May 4/06; CBS/AP June 1/06] The Associated Press and CBS News now confirm that Earth's sunscreen “appears poised” for the recovery they’ve been long reporting. Unless, that is, rapid Greenhouse Warming continues to skew atmospheric temperatures and circulations patterns, the rapid rise of methane gas from billions of cows and megatons of melting permafrost, a steep rise in nitrous oxide emissions from more than 5 million high-altitude jet airliner flights annually—and a projected 1,468 orbital rocket launches between 1998 and 2010 added to 3,174 launches already made from 1991 to 1997—“affect the outcome.” [CSIRO Telecommunications and Industrial Physics, Australia Feb 28/02] Guess what? Last winter, the protective ozone layer over the Arctic thinned to the lowest levels since records. At high altitudes, 50% of the protective layer was destroyed. ICE CLOUDS COMMETH While increased greenhouse gases in the air trap more heat in the lower atmosphere, sunlight reflected back into space by artificial clouds formed by chemtrails, airline exhausts and solid-fuel rocket launches is causing the upper stratosphere (between 14 and 26 kilometres above the Earth) to get much colder. Winter stratospheric ice clouds trap vast expanses of ozone-eating chemicals—and they are increasing in size and frequency. From the end of November 2005 to the end of February 2006, there were more ozone-destroying ice clouds that lingered for longer periods than ever previously recorded. In late March, when ozone depletion was at its worst, ice clouds drifted over the UK and Europe as far south as northern Italy—frying exposed life forms below. On April 26, 2005, scientists told a meeting in Vienna that "the atmospheric lifetime of these [ozone depleting] compounds is extremely long and the concentrations will remain at dangerously high levels for another half century." As Professor John Pyle explains, “We thought things would start to get better because of the phasing out of CFCs and other chemicals because of the Montreal protocol, but this has not happened. The pollution levels have leveled off but changes in the atmosphere have made it easier for the chemical reactions to take place that allow pollutants to destroy ozone. With these changes likely to continue and get worse as global warming increases, then ozone will be further depleted even if the level of pollution is going down.” RADIATION DAMAGE A reduction in ozone of 1% leads to increases of up to 3% in some forms of non-melanoma skin cancer. [UNEP 1998] The UN environment program estimates that for every 1% thinning of the ozone layer there is a 2% to 3% rise in skin cancer. It can also cause cataracts--even if dark glasses are worn. Since some species are more vulnerable than others, an increase in UV exposure has the potential to cause a shift in species composition and reduce diversity in ecosystems. Excess UV radiation cuts photosynthesis in plants, reducing the size and yield of winter wheat and other crops. Over half of all new cancers are skin cancers. One person dies of melanoma every hour. More than 1 million new cases of skin cancer were diagnosed in the United States in 2004The incidence of melanoma more than tripled among Caucasians between 1980 and 2003. [Rachel’s Jan 5/87] NO PLANKTON = NO PEOPLE Now, increased solar radiation streaming through the holes left rocket launches and airline flights are also frying the oceanic plankton that provide most of our spaceship’s oxygen, while scrubbing huge amounts of carbon out of the atmosphere. “Reducing the world's populations of phytoplankton would significantly impact the world's carbon cycle,” warns the Guardian, by leaving more carbon in the air. [Independent Jan 19/06; Guardian Apr 27/05] In November 2005, starvation from lack of plankton led, in turn, to catastrophic collapse in sea and bird life along America's Northwest Pacific seaboard and in the North Sea. [Independent Nov 13/05] CHEMTRAILS THREATEN EARTH But chemtrails are wrecking the atmosphere. Radar observations reported by Air Traffic Controllers tracking US air force tankers and their lingering chemical plumes over Edmonton, Canada and every major airport in the USA report specially sequestered altitudes for these chemical lay downs at 37,000 feet—right at the floor of the stratosphere, which until recently began about 13 kilometers above the surface of the Earth. The 7-10 million tons of aluminum oxide Teller urged to be added to jet fuel as a protective “sunscreen” are being released into an ozone layer that, if compressed at sea level would be no thicker than the gap in a spark plug (approximately 0.1 inch thick). [www.ucsusa.org] Exactly as Caldera’s models forecast, chemtrails are reflecting enough sunlight from this planet’s upper atmosphere to cool the stratosphere and form giant ice-clouds that concentrate megatons of long-lingering ozone-destroying chemicals. Finley has discovered that a 3-degrees Fahrenheit temperature drop per decade at an altitude of 40 km has resulted in “about a 10% cooling of the stratosphere.” GOING UP Storm clouds are characteristically flat on their “anvil” tops because they are hitting the bottom of stratosphere. As the stratosphere weakens, storm tops broaden and rise. As convection updrafts drill upwards from 13 to14 to 15 kilometers, more moisture is sucked higher, where, Finley explained, “incredibly low temperatures holds hail up there become baseball-size killer stuff”—just like the monster hail that hammered Arizona, stripping paint off cars and causing flash floods, in late July 2006. During the past three decades, researchers have measured a cooling of the stratosphere and a warming of the lower troposphere. These changes could affect the height of the tropopause, the boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere. Such a change could, in turn, affect the height of convection currents within the troposphere, such as those associated with thunderstorms, and could possibly affect the intensity of those storms. It might also alter the positions of the planet's jet streams and thus the movement of weather systems. [www.msc-smc.ec.gc.ca] The upwards-expanding troposphere is especially invasive of the stratosphere in the hot tropics, Finley added, “where typhoons and hurricanes form.” Comparing the chemtrail and shuttle-shredded ozone layer to “a tire being eroded to core,” Finley warned that an atmospheric “blowout” could be fatal to life on Earth. CHEMTRIALS: “A DETONATOR TO DYNAMITE” But as ultraviolet radiation from sunlight breaks down these chlorine molecules, about 300,000 tons of chlorine atoms are liberated into the stratosphere each year. Now comes the Catch-22 of ozone depletion: The destruction of atmospheric ozone results in no net loss of the chlorine required to cause the destruction. This means that the same chlorine molecules are available to restart the destruction cycle! [Space And Missile Systems Center Air Force Materiel Command Nov 1/94] “And that pool of more than half a century’s accumulated chlorine emissions is enormous,” Finley observed. This anxious atmospheric scientist cautioned that by reactivating this atmospheric reservoir of ozone depleting chlorine, the aluminum oxide found in lab tests of chemtrails fallout is acting “like a detonator to dynamite.” SPACED Every time the space shuttle is launched, 250 tons of hydrochloric acid is released into the air. And every dab of chlorinated, solid rocket fuel goes a long ways: just 1 gram eats 200 square-meters of Earth’s protective solar radiation shielding. Tsien Hsue Shen, father of the Chinese space program, chose lower-thrust liquid fuels for his country’s 1994 “Long March” rocket program because he opposed atmosphere-eroding solid-fuel perchlorate. The Russians also opted for less efficient liquid fuel space rockets for the same reason. Valery Burdakov, co-designer of the Russian liquid-fueled “Energiya” rocket engine, also notes that each shuttle launch produces seven tons of nitrogen--another major ozone depleter—as well as 387 tons of carbon dioxide, a major contributor to global warming and looming Climate Shift. Each solid-fuel shuttle launch also deposits another 177 tons of aluminum oxide throughout the ozone layer. Through the multiplication effects of sunlight-activated atmospheric chemistry, each US Delta rocket launch, for example, destroys eight million tons of protective ozone. Ditto (approximately) the US Titan, and the French Ariane V launches at the equator in French Guiana. [San Francisco Chronicle Aug 21/90] Burdakov notes that the history of ozone depletion correlates closely with the increase of chlorine discharged by solid fuel rockets since 1981. While Soviet rockets employ a fuel combination 2000-times less damaging than the shuttle’s, each Russian launch still destroys 1,500 tons of atmospheric ozone. There is currently a chlorine-fueled launch every two weeks from Vandenberg, Ariane and Canaveral (Kennedy). While chemtrails tonnages have not been released, worldwide space launches currently contribute over 800 tons of chlorine and 1,000 tons of alumina particles to the stratosphere annually. Because this represents just 0.25 percent of the total inorganic chlorine produced in the stratosphere, NASA isn’t worrying. [San Francisco Chronicle Aug 21/90] But is this low number accurate? NASA ACCUSED OF FALSIFYING CRUCIAL OZONE DATA Finley further noted that Robert Hudson “was head shuttle exhaust effects panel 1973 when shuttle designed. Became chairman of the International Ozone Commission 1996 –a post to which he has just returned.” On Hudson’s watch, Finley charged that the number relating to the ozone-eating emissions of each shuttle launch “was reduced by a factor of a hundred.” NASA’s “don’t worry, be happy” data regarding the atmospheric effects of its rocket exhausts were not consistent with previously published and peer-reviewed numbers. In 1998, reaction studies by the TRW space corp. verified a one-part-in-50 reaction rate of aluminum oxide emitted by shuttle exhausts. But the number was changed in NASA’s own 1998 Ozone Assessment to one part in a thousand. “In fact, their studies were off by orders of magnitude,” he says. “And no one could say they weren’t,” Finley said. “What the bloody hell’s going on here? NASA’s name is on the cover. And the numbers are 100-times better than their supposed to be. This is our atmosphere we’re talking about.” “They know this,” Finley alleged. The people behind chemtrails know that the atmosphere is changing. And this “is relevant to the tankers more than anything else.” CFC CONCENTRATIONS STILL RISING But a sneak preview of the not-yet-released Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion for 2006 emphasizes, “stratospheric chlorine loading has stabilized.” [U of Miami 2006] What this means, explains Robert Parson, an Associate Professor and physical chemist studying gas-phase processes in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Colorado, is that although the rate of increase has diminished, CFC concentrations are still increasing. And because the atmospheric lifetime of a typical CFC molecule is 50 to 100 years, accumulated CFCs in the atmosphere will continue to contribute close to 300,000 tons of inorganic chlorine annually well into the next century. If we get there. Finley was not optimistic. From his own experience trying to stop the destruction of Earth as a habitable planet, this scientists concedes that trying to stop space shuttle launches until the engines can be exchanged for non-ozone-destroying Russian and Chinese models or similar technology is a mission even more quixotic than trying to rein in the Bush gang, and the banks that back them. As for NASA— “They knew damn well about this fuel all the way along,” Finley accused. “Now, people who lied for NASA are running the show. “Billions of dollars are involved with this,” he added. Ozone-destroying, climate-change accelerating, ocean-killing solid-fuel rockets are “ America’s road to space.” CHECKING IN Finley told this reporter that he brought up his concerns with Rolland—“top man in the atmosphere in the world.” He also discussed his calculations with Harold Shiff, Dean of York University’s Atmospheric Studies—“One of best in world,” Finley says. “We talked many times.” In 2004, Finley showed his figures to Kenneth Hare, of the American Association Advancement Science. The Dean of Science at the University of Victoria also backed him up. Finley has also spoken with Paul Crutzen, one of the first scientists to sound the alarm over ozone depletion, who is still active in the field. Finley even showed Hudson his findings of “a chlorine exhaust peak at 43 kilometers.” Chewing on the inside of his cheek, squinting hard at Finley, the former head of NASA’s shuttle exhaust effects panel and chairman of the International Ozone Commission allegedly replied, “What do you want? Money?” It might have been a joke. But Finley felt a chill run up his spine. CANADIAN COURT CAN’T HELP Ironically, he added, everybody is “busy flying satellites” to check the atmosphere, “and nobody’s doing the math, and frankly I find it very disturbing.” On July 1, 2005, Finley petitioned the British Columbia Supreme Court to stop the shuttle launch scheduled for July 2006, by demonstrating that cascading atmospheric effects would endanger British Columbians. Though reportedly convinced by Finley’s argument, the Justice reasonably ruled that he “did not have jurisdiction” to slap a padlock on an American launch pad. IN COLUMBIA’S WAKE Within four days, this vast high-altitude cloud migrated south from Cape Canaveral over ozone-challenged Antarctica, forming massive polar mesospheric clouds some 85 km above the Earth. Geophysicists found that this single shuttle launch accounted for as much as 20% of the total mass of CFC-trapping ice in these super-high clouds over Antarctica. [Geophysical Research Letters Oct 29/05; New Scientist.com July 8/05] One of the most striking aspects of updated droughts, melting icecaps and other manifestations of Climate Shift is that scientists are continuously expressing their astonishment at the speed of atmospheric and oceanic breakdowns. Neil Finley suspected that the high ice clouds continuously formed by jetliner exhausts, rocket launches and chemtrails account for this unexpected acceleration of already fast-melting Arctic sea ice and Greenland’s icecaps and other atmospheric changes not accounted for in current predictive models. The good news, he said, is that by acting now, “We can buy some time.” If we can find the political will to defy the powerful oil, airline and space lobbies and switch to fewer liquid-fueled rocket launches, ground all stratospheric jetliners, and stop the chemtrail spraying, we can drastically slow Climate Shift’s rocket-like acceleration. It’s time to design a new and safer space shuttle, anyway. And there are legal grounds to ground all further flights. As Neil Finley insisted, “The problem is that a huge gigantic engineering project has been built on bad science. They don’t have the right the break the laws to do it, by changing numbers to show the shuttle is safe. If the numbers are wrong in the International Ozone Assessment, they need to be right before it goes. We need to take a look at this before it launches. Certification to fly is wrong.” http://www.willthomas.net/Chemtrails/Articles/Earths_Ozone_Layer.htm Virgin Galactic Unveils SpaceShipTwo Interior Concept As in the days of Noah Rats Born to Mice in Bizarre Lab Work The breakthrough marks the first time researchers produced healthy offspring [Photo] from sperm cells fostered in a different species. The hope is this method could help generate sperm from endangered species or prize bulls. A decade ago, scientists successfully developed sperm in one animal that had come from cells in another. Researchers began by growing rat sperm in mice, and proceeded to foster sperm from hamsters, rabbits, pigs, bulls and humans in mice as well. However, until now it remained unknown whether any of these sperm were fertile. In several instances they developed abnormally in their foreign hosts. The breakthrough Reproductive biologist Takashi Shinohara at Kyoto University in Japan and his colleagues first began with rats genetically engineered to produce a green fluorescent protein. Their cells and progeny would thus prove easy to recognize. Shinohara and his colleagues then removed the stem cells that sperm arise from in the rats and implanted them into testicles of mice. The scientists collected fluorescent green rat sperm from the mice and injected them into rat eggs. Successfully fertilized eggs were transferred into surrogate rat mothers. None of the fluorescent green rat pups born—yes, they are really green—displayed any abnormalities, genetic or otherwise. Moreover, they grew up to become fertile adults. Breeders use sperm taken from prize livestock to produce offspring that hopefully possess the same valuable traits. Scientists also use sperm to help endangered species generate progeny. The hope is that mice or other lab animals can grow sperm of livestock or endangered species while "saving space, food and in general being easier to take care of," Shinohara told LiveScience. Human applications The capability this opens up to study human sperm generated using this method could lead to novel contraceptives, Shinohara added, or in studying what contaminants are toxic to male reproduction. While this breakthrough raises the possibility of growing human sperm in other animals to generate viable human offspring, "it is not a good idea," Shinohara said. Besides the ethical issues, he noted there are viruses present in animals that could write themselves into genetic codes of the human sperm. Shinohara and his colleagues reported their findings online Aug. 28 via the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. http://www.livescience.com/othernews/060828_surrogate_rats.html The anti-sin cell? How long before God must intervene? Switching off Aging in Stem Cells Human stem cells help blinded rats The finding, published in the journal Cloning and Stem Cells, might offer a way to use stem cells that now exist in laboratories, the researchers said. "We have developed a technology that we hope can be used to treat degenerative eye diseases such as macular degeneration," said Dr. Robert Lanza of Advanced Cell Technology in Worcester, Massachusetts, who led the study. "We have demonstrated that these human embryonic-stem-cell-derived cells can rescue visual function in animals that otherwise would have gone blind," Lanza said in an e-mail. Stem cells are a kind of template cell for the body, producing the various tissue and cell types. Those taken from days-old embryos are especially malleable, and can produce any cell or tissue found in the body. Their use and production is controversial, however, with opponents saying it is unethical to use human embryos in this way. They say there are plenty of good experiments to be done using so-called adult stem cells, and scientists are racing to find potential therapies using both kinds of cells. President George W. Bush restricted federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research to a few lines, or batches, of cells that existed as of August 2001. Private companies such as Advanced Cell Technology can do as they like, and Lanza's team used some of those batches from 2001 as well as other batches produced using private funds. They transplanted the cells into rats genetically engineered to have defective eyes. The rats usually go completely blind. BYPASSING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM Lanza's team was trying to get the stem cells to morph into retinal pigment epithelium cells, which support the photoreceptors in the eye. Right now there is no ready source of these cells, and the company team thought this may be a good place to test out embryonic stem cells. "First, the eye is an immune-privileged site -- which means transplanted cells won't be rejected as aggressively as the rest of the body," Lanza said. "And second, many of these diseases are quite serious. For instance, macular degeneration alone affects more than 30 million people worldwide and is the leading cause of blindness in patients over 60 in the United States." At the start of the experiment, the researchers had to get the stem cells to generate the desired tissue. "In this study, we reliably generated retinal cells ... from all 18 human embryonic stem cell lines that were studied. In fact, we generated 67 different retinal stem cell lines," Lanza said. Then they transplanted them into the rats. The cells grew normally and did not -- as is a risk with embryonic cells -- form tumors, Lanza said. Soon the rats were able to follow lights with their eyes. They had about 70 percent of the spatial acuity of a normal, healthy rat, Lanza's team said. When the rats were killed and their eyes examined, they had grown layers of the retinal cells. "These observations are very exciting as they show that one day it will be possible to treat diseases of human eyes with cells," said Ian Wilmut, editor-in-chief of the magazine and one of the researchers who cloned the first sheep, Dolly. Lanza's company has said it might be possible to create banks of human embryonic stem cells that would provide close tissue matches for a variety of patients. "A bank of about 100 human embryonic stem cell lines could match half of the U.S. population," the researchers wrote. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060920/hl_nm/science_stemcells_dc_1 Lore of the Rings: Anti-Doping the new frontier Right-to-die advocates develop 'peaceful pill' Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him. Physics set for monster revolution Isaiah 24:3-6 White House Said to Bar Hurricane Report In the new case, Nature said weather experts at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - part of the Commerce Department - in February set up a seven-member panel to prepare a consensus report on the views of agency scientists about global warming and hurricanes. According to Nature, a draft of the statement said that warming may be having an effect. In May, when the report was expected to be released, panel chair Ants Leetmaa received an e-mail from a Commerce official saying the report needed to be made less technical and was not to be released, Nature reported. Leetmaa, head of NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in New Jersey, did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment. NOAA spokesman Jordan St. John said he had no details of the report. NOAA Administrator Conrad Lautenbacher is currently out of the country, but Nature quoted him as saying the report was merely an internal document and could not be released because the agency could not take an official position on the issue. However, the journal said in its online report that the study was merely a discussion of the current state of hurricane science and did not contain any policy or position statements. A series of studies over the past year or so have shown an increase in the power of hurricanes in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, a strengthening that many storm experts say is tied to rising sea-surface temperatures. Just two weeks ago, researchers said that most of the increase in ocean temperature that feeds more intense hurricanes is a result of human-induced global warming, a study one researcher said "closes the loop" between climate change and powerful storms like Katrina. Not all agree, however, with opponents arguing that many other factors affect storms, which can increase and decrease in cycles. The possibility of global warming affecting hurricanes is politically sensitive because the administration has resisted proposals to restrict release of gases that can cause warming conditions. In February, a NASA political appointee who worked in the space agency's public relations department resigned after reportedly trying to restrict access to Jim Hansen, a NASA climate scientist who has been active in global warming research. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20060926/D8KCPSL00.html Global warming? And the name of climate researcher Kevin Trenberth elicits a sputtered "opportunist." At the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where Trenberth works, Gray's name prompts dismay. "Bill Gray is completely unreasonable," Trenberth says. "He has a mind block on this." Only 55 miles separate NCAR's headquarters, nestled in the Front Range foothills, from CSU in Fort Collins. But when it comes to climate change, the gap is as big as any in the scientific community. At Boulder-based NCAR, researchers project a world with warmer temperatures, fiercer storms and higher seas. From CSU, Gray and Roger Pielke Sr., another climate professor emeritus, question the data used to make those projections and their application to regional climate change. Science by its nature is disputatious - with every idea challenged, tested and retested. It's always been that way. In the 18th century, Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz sparred over claims to the discovery of calculus. About 140 years later, Charles Darwin's theory of evolution was challenged - based on the science of the day - by Harvard University professor Louis Agassiz and the British Museum's Sir Richard Owen. Now the battle is over global warming, or more accurately over myriad details - like temperature readings and the thickness of sea ice - upon which the larger idea is based. On one hand, the fight is a natural part of the scientific process. But it also creates dissonance and uncertainty. "Some of this noise won't stop until some of these scientists are dead," said James Hansen, head of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City, and among the first to sound the alarm over climate change. While science is comfortable with uncertainty, policymakers are not, and that is what has turned this scientific debate into front-page headlines. "I think there is a debate about whether it's caused by mankind or whether it's caused naturally," President Bush said in a July interview. To be sure, Gray and Pielke are in a scientific minority. Still, their challenges remain part of the fractious scientific process. "Science needs skeptics," said NCAR researcher Warren Washington. Still, a broad scientific consensus has emerged that human activity is contributing to climate change. ... http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_4387552 $1,000,000,000,000: the cost of capping greenhouse gas emissions The volume of emissions of the gases that cause global warming will double by 2050 unless rich countries agree to take significant policy steps to cut energy use, it shows. The report, byPricewaterhouseCoopers, lays bare the potential damage to the environment of the industrial revolution in China and India. It puts a price of $1 trillion (£526bn) on the cost of sorting out the problem spread over the next generation. The bill is equivalent to a year's output of the economy of Canada, and less than half of the total stock of debt that has been built up by Britain's households. But it is less than the cost in terms of environmental catastrophe and loss of life that scientists fear will happen as temperatures and sea levels rise. "It is implicit from our findings that a trillion dollars certainly is a cost worth incurring," said John Hawksworth, the chief economist at PwC and author of the report. Turbo-charged growth in emerging economies is helping to drag billions of people out of poverty across Asia, Latin America and eastern Europe. But according to PwC, the price will be paid by sharp rises in global energy consumption and carbon emissions. They say it means the rich nations that have done most to cause the problem must take more drastic action to reduce their environmental impact. The report comes as the environmental community awaits a key Treasury-commissioned report on the economic cost of climate change. Sir Nicholas Stern, a former chief economist at the World Bank, is expected to conclude that it will be cheaper to act now to curb energy use than to pay for the cost of symptoms later. His findings, which will be presented to G8 environment ministers during a closed-door session at a summit in Mexico next week, will also outline the financial impact of global warning. Sir Nicholas will reject the alternative argument that the world should maximise economic growth to build reserves to meet the costs of the final reckoning. .... http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/article1772355.ece Cooling Down The Climate Scare While Al Gore drifts into deeper darkness on the other side of the moon, propelled by such revelations as cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming," Sen. James Inhofe is becoming a one-man myth-wrecking crew. Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma, took to the Senate floor two days last week to expose the media's role in the global warming hype. This is a man who more than three years ago called the global warming scare "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people" and has made a habit of tweaking the left-leaning environmental lobby. One member of the media, Miles O'Brien of CNN, responded last week to Inhofe's criticism of the media with a piece criticizing Inhofe and challenging his arguments. If anything, it seems that O'Brien's reply simply motivated Inhofe to continue his effort to undress the media's complicity and bring light to the issue. We hope so. The "science" on global warming and the media's propaganda campaign need to be picked apart. The assumptions made by gloomy theorists should be revealed for what they are: mere conjecture. The lies and carefully crafted implications, many of them discharged like toxic pollutants by a former vice president, deserve a thorough and lasting deconstruction. What the public needs -- and deserves -- is a credible voice to counter the sermons from Gore, on whose behalf cigarettes were distributed in 2000 to Milwaukee homeless people who were recruited by campaign volunteers to cast absentee ballots. Inhofe could be that voice. He's no John the Baptist crying out in the wilderness. What he is, in fact, is a thrice-elected senator, a former member of the House and, before that, a state senator and representative. For those not impressed by a political background -- after all, Gore, far out of proportion to his qualifications, rose to the second most powerful position on Earth -- consider that Inhofe is an Army veteran and longtime pilot, and has actually worked in the private sector. Unlike most in the Senate, Inhofe is willing to stand on a soapbox and expose his head to his opponents' rhetorical stones. Name another in that august body who would dare label as a hoax the premise that undergirds the day's most trendy pop cult. Is there anyone there who would want to try to stand up to the likes of O'Brien? O'Brien's biased report is not exactly the type of exposure global warming skeptics hope for, though. The goal, say the skeptics, should be to teach and inform, to provide an alternative to the flood of hyperbole and intentionally misleading thunder that's passed off as settled science. There are enough scientists to fill a fleet of Humvees who can express scepticism over global warming, despite Gore's claims that the matter has been resolved in favor of his conclusions. But none has the forum a U.S. senator can command. With rare exceptions, scientists can marshal media attention on the climate change issue only by spouting the party line that man-made emissions are causing Earth to warm. That's the sort of stuff the press laps up like a starving dog. Without the wind of a compliant media at his back, Inhofe nevertheless got his message out to America, primarily through C-Span and the Drudge Report, which linked to his speeches at the Web site of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Among those responding to Inhofe's first speech included a scientist and a meteorologist. Both hold views on global warming that are in line with the senator's -- which puts them at odds with the environmental lobby's assertions of "consensus" that have been relentlessly beaten into the masses for more than a decade. The most important audience, though, is among the Americans who have no links to science. They're the ones who have a lot to learn and will benefit the most from someone who has mass access to the public and is willing to challenge the widely -- and often uncritically -- accepted claims about climate change. http://biz.yahoo.com/ibd/060929/issues01.html?.v=1 Southern California branded US smog capital Figures released by California's Air Quality Management District late Thursday said the region, which includes Los Angeles and San Diego, had the worst smog levels ahead of the San Joaquin Valley, in Northern California, and Houston, Texas. According to the figures, Southern California had 86 days of unhealthy air during the smog season, which runs from May 1 and ends on October 1. It is the third year in a row the region has topped the smog rankings, the AQMD said. Barry Wallerstein, executive officer of the AQMD, said there had been an overall slowdown in the rate of exposure to air "Personal exposure to air pollution is diminishing but not at the dramatic pace that we experienced during the past two decades," he said. While cars were running on cleaner fuel, smog levels continued to be high because of diesel-powered heavy goods vehicles, ships and trains. California has some of the toughest clean-air laws in the United States. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/09/29/060929195014.dxzl7cs2.html Locust plague encircles Mexico's Cancun resort Traveling in dark fogs, locusts are grasshoppers that have entered a swarming phase, capable of covering large distances and rapidly stripping fields of vegetation. "Imagine, they fly in the form of a flock. Imagine the width of a street," government official Martin Rodriguez said on Tuesday, describing the fields around Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula. Towns have formed pesticide-armed brigades and are winning the war against the 3-week-old plague that has left tourist areas unharmed, authorities said. Squads wait until night when the flying insects are roosting on plants to blast them. They carry motorized backpack pumps to shoot chemicals in a crusade that has affected from 2,000 to 2,500 acres of farm land. "It is a war, effectively," said German Parra, a senior agriculture official in the Gulf state of Quintana Roo, home of tourist resorts Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Hot weather and an absence of mobility-limiting hurricanes have allowed the insects to breed more than normal but authorities hope to end the infestation in the next eight days. The insects have focused on agricultural areas, sparing beachgoers another disaster after last year's Hurricane Wilma, which ravaged Cancun and other Caribbean coast resorts and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages and lost revenue.
