Judge Fines Christians For Praying In Public Park And Threatens To Do It Again

by James Sundquist

Here are the results of the trial on Friday February 29, 2008 where seven Christians were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for disturbing the peace on June 23rd of 2007.

The charges had been dropped on three of the seven, but the remaining four asked for a trial. The judge found them guilty of disturbing the peace and fined the defendants $100 each plus $95 each for court costs. In addition, all seven defendants who were arrested are on probation...a conditional discharge if they remain out of trouble for one year. Elmira City Judge Thomas Ramich ruled that if they go back to the park again and do the same thing (pray prostrate on the ground on public property during an event), they will be arrested and go to jail.

Here are my first-hand observations, having attended the trial. The judge's ruling made front page news in gay activist publications. Judge Thomas Ramich, District Attorney Robert Siglin, Officer Sharon Morey, and the Elmira Police Force, in concert became, in effect, a perfect infomercial for the Gay Rights agenda and destroyers of First Amendment and free exercise of religion rights, protected by the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of New York. Big Brother is alive and well!
