Angel Moroni: Fixed, Fallen, or Fiction? - It'll never fly!

For those who study Mormonism, here are several problems with the Moroni story.

He allegedly appeared to Joseph Smith as an angel of light. "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." (2 Cor. 11:14-15)

The Introduction page of the Doctrine and Covenants verified that Moroni IS an angel of light, editions until 1979. The Introduction page to the D&C including the printings before that date, says, "...Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light..." McConkie's Mormon Doctrine, 1966 ed., page 35, verifies that angel of light is indeed the devil. It says, "ANGEL OF LIGHT - See devil." - No other possibilities are even suggested! Of course they have, since 1979, removed that and also rewritten the introduction to D&C for obvious reasons - it was too clearly stated who this Moroni really is.

Second, he brought to Joseph Smith a different gospel than the one that saves (1 Cor. 15:1-4) "...[The angel [Moroni] came and committed a record of the Gospel, not merely given in a verbal manner, but caused to be translated a record that contained the everlasting Gospel in all its fullness." (Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 18, p. 175, 1876).

"Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Gal. 1:7-9)

Third, this alleged son of Mormon, a Nephite warrior, evidently made a lot of mistakes to only became an angel while never achieving godhood.

Fourth, Moroni's message obviously has many errors but he was not inspired as he openly admits. He was a poor writer (Ether 12:40) and wrote from memory (Ether 5:1).

Fifth, the poor angel if he were real would be vexed and offended! Moroni warned against societies, oaths, combinations and secret plans as being most abominable and exceeding wicked! (Ether 8:16-24) Behind the ceremonies he sees the devil turning people from salvation (Ether 8:25-26). Since secret societies corrupt hearts to exceeding great wickedness, "prophets" cried out, so he says (Ether 9:6,26-28). The practices allegedly led to devastating wars and everlasting destruction (Ether 11:1-23; 13:15,18,25; 14:8-10,25) But poor Moroni! He was put on the Salt Lake City temple, shrouded within with oaths of secrecy. How obvious is this? Masonic handshakes were engraved into the stones below Moroni's feet! What a slap in his face!

Sixth, the Bible only mentions the specific names of Michael and Gabriel as holy angels. Lucifer fell with others to become the god of this world. Symbols representing other faiths include a Star of David, a Mosque, the golden calf, the golden Moroni, or the Cross. The LDS symbol accurately placed itself right where it belongs, in contrast to and outside of Christianity.
