Smacking Ban Ruled Out Because Parents Object
Children's Minister, Kevin Brennan, told MPs: "...a majority of parents say that smacking should not be banned outright... the Government will retain the law in its current form, in the absence of evidence it is not working satisfactorily." Over the summer many Christian Institute supporters wrote to their MP to express opposition to a ban. We thank God for those who did so and believe this played a crucial role in persuading the Government not to ban smacking. This shows the value of engaging in the democratic process in this way. The Christian Institute is continuing its work to oppose an incitement to 'homophobic hatred' law. We believe such a law could be used to interfere with the free speech and religious liberty of Christians. Get the latest news on the incitement proposal here. Yours in Christ,Humphrey Dobson Deputy Director (Policy and Staffing) The Christian Institute |
