Confession Is Good For The Soul

by Jackie Alnor
Apostasy Alert

I have a confession to make. I can't write about Catholicism without my emotions getting stirred up. I can't be objective about the subject "“ nor can I shut up about it either.

When I see Bible-believing churches adopt Roman Catholic traditions, such as the liturgical use of incense, candles, and icons, I recoil in disgust. When Roman Catholic church fathers are quoted by Protestants to prove some theological point, I roll my eyes. When I'm in a gathering of believers and we are led by the leader to recite the Lord's Prayer in unison, Matthew 6:7 comes directly into my mind.

NEW YORK (CNS) -- For the first time, representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a papal prayer service -- and it all started over coffee.

In an interview with Catholic News Service and other reporters before the start of the ecumenical prayer service at St. Joseph's Church in New York April 18, Father James Massa, executive director of the U.S. bishops' Secretariat of Ecumenical and Interrreligious Affairs, said that during a coffee break at a recent meeting a representative of the Latter-day Saints asked him if there was any possibility of their participation in the papal visit.

Why I Left The Catholic Church

by Pat Franklin

I wonder if I am the only person to have left the Catholic Church twice. The first time was as a college student in America in 1964 when I chucked the whole thing overboard and became an agnostic liberal. The second time was many years later in England. In 1981 we lived in the small town of Alton in Hampshire, and to my amazement, the Lord Jesus came into my life in a most wonderful way. I was changed overnight from being an anti-Christian liberal to being a Bible-believing follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. People at the local evangelical free church had been praying for me, but since I had been raised as a Catholic, that was the church I joined.

In a move that many Jewish community officials said would cause relations between Jews and Catholics to further deteriorate, the Vatican on Saturday lifted an excommunication ban against Bishop Richard Williamson, one of four bishops who were banned in 1988 for taking on the office of bishop against the wishes of then-Pope John Paul II.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. "“ Two priests who authorities say for years stole cash from their Florida church's offering plate and hid it in the church ceiling and offshore bank accounts to pay for lavish lifestyles will soon face a judge.

Their trial is scheduled to start Wednesday in an embezzlement case authorities say could be one of the biggest to hit the U.S. Catholic Church.

Anglican Communion

[caption id="attachment_2796" align="alignright" width="250" caption="Dr Rowan Williams"]Rowan Williams[/caption]

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, today presided at a 'secret' eucharist for the Clergy Consultation, as we reported that he would back in September. As we report, he gave a talk on 'present realities and future possibilities for lesbians and gay men in the church.' The venue, originally at St Peter's Eaton Square, was switched to another location in London, All Hallows-by-the-Tower, to avoid media attention after new of the meeting emerged first on the Church Society website. In a speech on ecumenism in Rome last Friday, translated from German for me by Chris Gillibrand, Cardinal Walter Kasper spoke of the irrevocable divisions emerging from Anglicanism's present crisis.

The Cardinal said: 'While we in old matters of controversy we try to overcome old divisions, presently in ethical questions new divisions open up. This applies in particular to the protection of life, to marriage and the family, and issues of human sexuality. The joint public testimony is thereby weakened or impossible. The internal crisis for the churches is most evident in the Anglican community, but not only there.'

Purpose Driven and the Catholic Church

September 2005

How much do you know about the Catholic Church and the followers of Catholicism? Most people are aware that Mary (the mother of Jesus) is on a very high pedestal, that Catholics go to mass every Sunday (the "good" ones, anyway), go to confession at least once a year, and take the Eucharist when at mass. That"s about all I knew as of 2 years ago, until I moved to Mexico - a VERY Catholic country.

Pat Van Albert's Testimony

My husband and I are members of Calvary Chapel of Delaware County. We are really blessed by this ministry and have learned alot from Jacob. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.

I'am a former catholic, I received Jesus, as my Savior, in May of 73. My husband came into the family a year later.

I remember that I was really searching and felt very confused, I got mixed up in the occult. The catholic church seemed to help with my interest in alot of these "dark practices." I started asking my priest about alot of things that were bothering me. We spent alot of time talking and I was getting even more confused. The witch that I was involved with sent me to another priest. I was told to read, The Exorcist.

Monique McManus Testimony

I was born and raised catholic. At 18 I left the church, my home and moved in with my boyfriend. Bad scene drugs, drinking-bars, bad crowd, abortion, fornication. Really, I should have been killed several times. After marrying, God literally took me out of the bad places and people, still having the urge, but was ok if not around. He had protected me and gave me extra strength to overcome. (not knowing what was really happening)
