Rocking the Boat with St. Jackie

by Jackie Alnor
Apostacy Alert

In the past week there have been three shocking stories in the secular press involving church women who have brought a reproach upon the Gospel in the eyes of the world. I have warned the church many times concerning these three women and challenged their ministries by the Word of God, as have other discerning voices in the church, yet mainstream Christendom"s Public Relations" policy of nonrockaboatus (as the late Bible-Answerman Walter Martin used to call it) lives on in the 21 st century.

Catholic churches in the Netherlands should use the name Allah for God to ease tensions between Muslims and Christians, says a Dutch bishop.

Tiny Muskens, the bishop of Breda, told the Dutch TV program "Network" Monday night he believes God doesn't mind what he is called, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported.

The Almighty is above such "discussion and bickering," he insisted.

By Gillian Flaccus

Cardinal Roger Mahony, leader of the nation's largest Roman Catholic archdiocese, apologized Sunday to the hundreds of people who will get a share of a $660 million settlement over allegations of clergy sex abuse.

"There really is no way to go back and give them that innocence that was taken from them. ... The one thing I wish I could give the victims, I cannot," he said.

There are forces at work within the Roman Catholic Church that are tired of being nice and ecumenical. The need for outward shows of brotherhood like the ECT (Evangelicals and Catholics Together) document is a thing of the past. They are beginning to show their true colors. The bait is no longer sweet and the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction.

The change in strategy has been made possible by a new popularity for things Catholic that began with the opening of Mel Gibson"s film "The Passion of the Christ." Best-selling Catholic books in Evangelical bookstores by Catholic cross-over authors such as Brennan Manning and Peter Kreeft gave Rome another big boost.

Rome -- Limbo has been in limbo for quite some time, but is now on its way to extinction.

A Vatican committee that spent years examining the medieval concept published a much-anticipated report on Friday, concluding that unbaptized babies who die may go to heaven.

That could reverse centuries of Roman Catholic traditional belief that the souls of unbaptized babies are condemned to eternity in limbo, a place that is neither heaven nor hell. Limbo is not unpleasant, but it is not a seat alongside God.

The Vatican ambassador to Israel threatened on Thursday to boycott a Holocaust memorial ceremony next week over a museum's portrayal of Pope Pius XII's conduct during the Nazis' killing of Jews in World War Two.

Archbishop Antonio Franco said he had written to the director of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum asking for the revision of a caption suggesting the wartime Pope had been apathetic to the Jews' plight.

End Times Catholic Misfits

by Jackie Alnor
Apostasy Alert

There"s a new breed of religious enthusiast that is peculiar to our present generation. They are a mutation of the Christian media and Romanism: a hybrid of sacramentalism, premillennialism, occultism, and fanaticism. They are outcasts in the Catholic church and yet are not at home in any Evangelical church either. They are cradle Catholics who have a passion for looking into the future and utilize diverse means to unlock the mysteries of the unknown. They give Nostradamus and the messages of Marian apparitions equal weight with Bible prophecy in their quest to put this giant jigsaw puzzle together. I call them End Times Catholic Misfits.

Catholic Church Collects Money for Mosque

16 March 2007

Cologne, Germany (dpa) - When the Rev. Franz Meurer stands at the altar this Sunday in his priestly vestments, he'll say to the congregation: "Today's collection is for the construction of the big new mosque in Ehrenfeld."

Meurer, 55, is not expecting protests. Both the board of Cologne's St. Theodore Catholic Church and the parish council have unanimously approved the action.

"It's only natural that we're helping them," he said of the Muslims living in a city that is one of the main centres of Catholicism in Germany.

Churches Back Plan To Unite Under Pope

Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent
February 19, 2007

Radical proposals to reunite Anglicans with the Roman Catholic Church under the leadership of the Pope are to be published this year, The Times has learnt.

The proposals have been agreed by senior bishops of both churches.

In a 42-page statement prepared by an international commission of both churches, Anglicans and Roman Catholics are urged to explore how they might reunite under the Pope.

Twenty-some years ago, my sister Janet and I signed up for a field trip sponsored by the Crystal Cathedral to a Vedanta monastery in the nearby Saddleback Mountains. At that time we were working together on a discernment newsletter called "The New Age Alert" and attended as part of our research. The field trip was being promoted as an educational adventure to examine the similarities and differences of two supposedly opposite extremes of religious expression. The tour guide was a lady who was a long-time member of Robert Schuller"s Crystal Cathedral and she introduced herself as an aficionado of comparative religions.

The day started with a guided tour of the Crystal Cathedral grounds after we all met up at the statue of Job in the courtyard. Then after the tour of the most decadent ostentatious so-called house of God on the planet (that"s another story altogether), we boarded buses that took us on a short jaunt to the nearby wilderness. A man with a shaved head, in a red robe, with a blank look on his face greeted us. He told us not to concern ourselves with the fact that we would be ignored by all the Vedanta monks because they are in silence.
