Question on the Sermon "The Plastic Bible"

A Reader Writes:

Hi there,

In the April newsletter, The Plastic Bible, Jacob has asked a question. I suppose it is actually rhetorical, and he doesn't really want an answer, but I'm going to give him one anyway. The question is: "Where does the King James justify using the word "Easter"?"

Although the Greek plainly says pascha, which we would normally translate Passover, the context indicates that that is not what is meant here. Acts 12:3 says, "...Then were the days of unleavened bread." Passover is the 14th of Nisan. That's a single day and night. Followed by 7 days of unleavened bread. If it was during the days of unleavened bread, clearly Passover had been and gone. Herod was by no means concerned about doing away with anyone on the Passover. Jesus was sacrificed at Passover. Furthermore he was a pagan. Obviously he didn't want to mess up his own religious feast, the one which comes from Eostre, Ashtoreth, etc. Whether the AV translators substituted Passover for Easter with complete understanding, or as it were accidentally, doesn't really matter. The hand of God was on them and they got it right. Easter, Herod's pagan festival, is the one which should be named here.

A Reader Sent the Following Question:

I am sorry to trouble you with this question but hope you can help.

I am in the process of having to deal with a Ruckmanite who is causing real problems in a Church. I have pointed out to him a copyist error in the KJV and cannot come up with any other explanation than the fact that it is a copyist error that has crept into the translation. The 2 paralell passages in question are 2 Chronicles 22vs 2 & 2 Kings 8 vs 26.

2 Chronicles 22:2

" Forty and two years old was Ahaziah whn he began to reign and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri"

2 Kings 8:26

Two & Twenty Years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign: and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mothers name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri"

I have checked some other translations which suggest he was 22 on both counts. I have also read an attempt by a KJV nut to try an explain it and it was absolutely crazy. I know that the Individual in question will revert to M. Ruckman & Mr. Gipp personally on this issue and further more my knowledge in this area is clearly limited.

The Variorum has in its footnote that 2 Chronicles 22:2 should be 22 and not 42. The NIV & Darby Translation have it on both occasions at age 22.

Thanks for your help I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Vicky Dillen and KJV-Only Advocates

Dear Moriel and Rabbi Prasch:

About 10 years ago I was contacted by Vicky Dillen in Canada regarding my expertise of knowledge of the phony Christian right who are very involved in Dominionism/Reconstructionism, Sun Myung Moon, and the Scientologists.  Vicky wanted some specific information.  I was very willing to speak with her about whatever she asked.  I even bought some books from her that she'd gotten from a house sale.

At any rate, during our conversation, I questioned her about her faith and I distinctly remember that she had no idea of the doctrines of different churches, including the rapture of the Church, Israel as the wife of Jehovah, replacement theology, or any of the false doctrines by many of the churches.  I was absolutely astounded.

So it is with astonishment that this woman without any formal training and with a limited amount of biblical upbringing can attack as many as she seems to enjoy doing.  I've actually seen Dr. Arnie Fruchtenbaum attacked because of the logo of Ariel Ministries.  People are nuts!

Having just seen her attack on you, and having just listened to your teaching from Steve Babko's Prophecy Conference, I thought I'd jot you a note and tell you what I knew.  Actually Vicky Dillen is not even worthy of having you respond to any of her idiotic charges...ignore her, she's not worth the time.

Yours for the salvation of Israel

Encounter with Vicky Dillen

Moriel recently received the following email:

Brother Jacob,

I have recently had a very rude and unexpected introduction to Vicky Dillen's blog. In my 38 years of being in the Lord, I have rarely encountered such a blatant "root of bitterness" in my spiritual life, and that's saying something considering my life experiences. After a series of unintended unpleasant exchanges, I managed to earn a sort of "red badge of courage" and was banned from further participation for a season. Somehow, I think I'll get over the disappointment. An unteachable teacher is quite unseemly, and before I look at anyone else in this regard, I must first look at myself, endeavoring to take Paul's admonition to Timothy to heart, "Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching." Their website states, "People are free to believe what they want." What they fail to state [is] that it only applies as long as you are in agreement with them.

Is Your Modern Translation Corrupt?

Answering the Allegations of KJV Only Advocates

King James Version only advocates argue that all modern translations of the New Testament are based on Greek manuscripts that contain intentional doctrinal corruptions. However, an examination of the most important manuscripts underlying these translations demonstrates that such charges are based more upon prejudice than fact. The papyri finds of the last century, together with the great uncial texts from the fourth and fifth centuries A.D., do not deprecate the deity of Christ, the Trinity, or salvation by grace through faith. Modern translations, such as the NIV and NASB, are not "corrupt" but instead trustworthy and useful translations of the Word of God.

What is the Ruckmanite Cult?

by James Jacob Prasch

Ruckmanites are a neo gnostic cult following the beliefs of Peter Ruckman. Ruckman (a three times divorced and remarried white supremacist who refers to Blacks as "niggers"), like his followers and as with most cult leaders has no formal training or expertise in the matters he pontificates about. Ruckman and his followers hold the 1611 edition of The King James Bible as authoratative and infallible instead of the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts, and maintain that KJV additions are "further revelation".

Timothy McVeigh Comes To Church

The Trinitarian Bible Society is an organisation of committed evangelicals holding the view that the underlying original texts of the Authorised King James Version of The Bible, specifically the Hebrew Masoretic text and the Greek Textus Receptus are the best manuscripts. Such people are genuine brethren concerned for biblical truth and seek to represent scholarly and linguistically credible defenses for their position. People of this class are not KING JAMES ONLY but rather Masoretic Text and Textus Receptus Only. We have common ground with such brethren in terms of a shared opposition to ecumenism, inclusive translations, and liberal and higher critical theology Indeed there may be various reasons to question their position.

A Response to the Despatch Magazine Part 3 of 3

by Dr. Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum, Th.M, Ph.D
Director, Ariel Ministrie, Tustin, CA

What is extremely interesting are the passages that the Wendys chose not to quote. Did Paul really teach against the practice of Jewish customs by Jewish believers? One only has to look at Acts 21:20-26 to see that Paul publicly took a vow for one specific reason: he did not teach against believers continuing in the practice of Jewish customs and traditions. He certainly taught against Gentile circumcision, but as this passage shows, he did not teach against Jewish circumcision and his own initiative of the circumcision of Timothy, who had Jewish backgrounds, shows how often Paul went out of his way to maintain his own Jewish identity. Did Paul consider himself only a former Jew, but a Jew no longer since he believed? On the contrary, he kept affirming his own present Jewish identity. Notice the use of Paul"s present tense in IIÂ  Corinthians 11:22: Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I. This is only one example where Paul more than once affirms his Jewishness following his salvation. What you find Paul doing consistently is affirming both his Jewishness and his faith in Christ (he never used the term "Christian" of himself). The LCJE statement they quote is simply following Paul"s footsteps. They wish to affirm both their faith in the Messiahship of Jesus as well as their Jewish identity. As believers, the Wendys have the absolute right to maintain their Australian identity and culture. They also have the right to remain women. By the same token, Jewish believers have the right to maintain their Jewish identity; but the Wendys wish to deny them that privilege because they have a real problem with Jewishness. The above is followed by another guilt by association statement:

Specific Responses

Page 5: As stated earlier, typical of anti-Semites is the belief that there is some kind of a world Jewish conspiracy. The conspiracy factor comes out quite early in the article in dealing with Jacob Prasch, accusing him of wanting to change the Bible "to suit his Jewish plans." A denial of the inspiration of the King James Version is part of the Jewish conspiracy and so they write:
